The monologue opens at Teatro Paiol in the “1st Festival of Monologues”. The play narrates a cut in Carmen Miranda’s life, when, already consecrated as one of the main Brazilian personalities in the United States, she returned for a show in Brazil, booed for supposedly having “sold herself to the American government”.

A new block of tickets for HAMILTON is now available for performances through August 20, 2023.

Benjamin Millepied’s CARMEN is a gritty modern day tale, with a majestic score by Nicholas Britell, and dream-like dance sequences that evoke magic realism. Finding new ways to tell age old stories is as old as time.  Greek and Roman mythology, passion plays and Shakespearean tales are often updated or transformed from play to musical to opera or  even ballet.  Most recently the Broadway stage has found a new re-telling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth in the form of the TONY Award winning  HADESTOWN and the tour is playing at Shea's Buffalo through this Sunday.
