SDMT kicks off this summer with the feel good comedy All Shook Up. Nominated for 3 Outer Critics Circle awards including Best Musical, featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. Loosely based on Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night,' 'All Shook Up' tells the story of a small town girl with big dreams from somewhere in the middle of a square state in the middle of a square decade, and the motorcycle-riding stud she falls for. He changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that'll have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as 'Heartbreak Hotel,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' and 'Don't Be Cruel.'
It is also a universal truth that PRIDE AND PREJUDICE will be portrayed with the stiff formality of prior Austen adaptations - it's the law. Thankfully, the Kate Hamill adaption now playing at the Cygnet Theatre through June 16th takes all of the starch out of the proceedings and adds in a bit of zany fun instead.
The final show of Cygnet's sixteenth season brings fun, whimsy and modern-day humor to a beloved classic by Jane Austen. Pride and Prejudice runs May 15 through June 16, 2019. Opening Night for media is Saturday, May 18 at 8:00PM. The outspoken Elizabeth Bennet faces mounting pressure from her status-conscious mother to secure a suitable marriage. But is marriage suitable for a woman of Elizabeth's intelligence and independence? Especially when the irritating, aloof, self-involved tall, vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aristocratic Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn. Literature's greatest tale of latent love has never felt so theatrical or so full of life as it does in this effervescent new adaptation. Hamill's Pride and Prejudice garnered Best Theatre of 2017 from Huffington Post and was a Wall Street Journal Critic's Pick.

Directed by Manny Bejarano featuring choreography by Michael Mizerany and music direction by William Ah Sing, this quick-change, cross-dressing version of the Charles Dickens classic is set in a Victorian music hall. The Royal Music Hall Twenty-Member Variety Players are beset with a widespread case of food poisoning. This leaves only three surviving members to soldier on through a performance of A Christmas Carol. The undaunted trio gamely face missed cues, ill-fitting costumes, and solving the problem of having no one to play Tiny Tim. Done in the style of British Music Hall, SCROOGE IN ROUGE abounds in bad puns, bawdy malapropisms, naughty double-entendres, and witty songs. A raucous holiday treat!

Cygnet's fourteenth season ends with the manic, irreverent and wildly imaginative presentation of the theatrical event, Shockheaded Peter. This 1998 musical took a famed German children's book series and turned it into an instant classic. The stage production of Shockheaded Peter won rave reviews around the world as one of the most original collaborations of its kind. It featured music by The Tiger Lillies, a three-piece band with a cult following in London, and includes graphic and hilariously sadistic lessons for children about what will happen to them if they don't do as they are told. These cautionary tales for children become lessons for adults in the completely demented stage production.
