BWW Review: THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, New Diorama TheatreBWW Review: THE WAR OF THE WORLDS, New Diorama Theatre
by Gary Naylor - Jan 11, 2019

I confess to entering the theatre with a sense of foreboding. The legend of Orson Wells' The War of the Worlds has been done to death - the radio broadcast that created panic across the USA, as people were convinced that Martians had landed in New Jersey. So what? It was over 80 years ago and we'd never fall for that these days... (more...)

Rhum and Clay Theatre Company Presents MISTERO BUFFORhum and Clay Theatre Company Presents MISTERO BUFFO
by BWW News Desk - Jul 2, 2018

A daring rallying cry for the disenfranchised, Mistero Buffo takes aim at those who manipulate truth and belief for power and control. Rhum and Clay's resonant restaging of Dario Fo's 1969 masterpiece frames the play's central character - a travelling storyteller or 'jongleur'- as a gig economy employee, rushing from his last delivery of the day to recount ancient tales of Jesus and his life. But this clownish figure's versions of Biblical tales aren't anything like you've heard before… Mistero Buffo is a one man tour de force that elevates the voice of the vulnerable over the accepted narratives of power and privilege. BWW Review: Center for the Arts' Emotionally-Charged 1776
by Jeffrey Ellis - Jul 26, 2016

Perhaps it's a case of perfect timing - or maybe it's simply the fact that a revival of a much-beloved Tony Award-winning best musical is enough to attract a strong ensemble of men to the project - but make no mistake about it, Murfreesboro's Center for the Arts succeeds where so many companies have fallen short in bringing a superbly mounted production of Sherman Edwards' and Peter Stone's 1776 to vibrant life onstage! CRITIC'S CHOICE: Scaring Up Theatrical Fun for Halloween
by Jeffrey Ellis - Oct 30, 2015

It's Halloween weekend and every dramatic personage and theatrical type we've ever encountered is caught up in the annual rush to find just the right costume for their holiday revelries (we confess we've never had the knack for coming up with Halloween get-ups - not since we went in drag to a party at the First Baptist Church as the age of 12…tongues were wagging, we are certain, but we lived to tell about it, so it couldn't have been that bad). In the meantime, there are all sorts of onstage happenings this weekend to keep you otherwise engaged should the difficulty of selecting your costume prove to be too much. (more...)
