Review: COLD WAR, Almeida Theatre

It raised eyebrows when it was announced: Paweł Pawlikowski’s Oscar nominated Cold War is hardly five years old, not nearly enough time for it to have fallen off the cultural radar. If a stage adaptation isn’t rejuvenating a lost classic, what does it want to achieve?

Review: PANDEMONIUM, Soho Theatre, W1

Armando Iannucci’s name carries great clout; as well as comedy and Dickens, shows such as The Thick Of It and Veep have secured his status as one of our great political satirists, yet until now he has never written anything for the stage. If anyone can skewer the madness of the last few years, it is surely Iannucci. Well, it seems not.

Rambert's PEAKY BLINDERS to be Broadcast as Part of BBC's Festive Line-Up

The BBC have revealed their festive line-up, including many theatrical treats. Among the announcements are Rambert's Peaky Blinders: The Redemption of Thomas Shelby, Matthew Bourne’s Sleeping Beauty and The Hound of the Baskervilles, recorded on the stage of London’s Barbican Theatre.

Review: CINDERELLA, Liverpool Everyman Theatre

It just wouldn’t be the festive season without The Liverpool Everyman Rock ‘n’ Roll Pantomime - and it’s easy to see why this beloved show has audiences returning year after year.

Review: GHOSTS, Sam Wanamaker Playhouse

If the idea of spending time with your family over the festive season is one that makes you queasy, spare a thought for the Alvings. They have enough skeletons in the closet to populate a graveyard.

Review: TWO STRANGERS (CARRY A CAKE ACROSS NEW YORK), Kiln Theatre

All in all, Two Strangers is a pleasant night out for the rom-com lovers: it romanticises The City That Never Sleeps and leaves the audience with a delightful ending that solves very little of the plot. It won’t change the world of musical theatre, but it’s nice and fuzzy. Like a good pair of comfy Christmas socks.
