This educational partnership, made possible through a $1.46 million grant by The Rockefeller Foundation, is not only providing 20,000 NYC public school students with the opportunity to see HAMILTON on Broadway, but provides educational material by Gilder Lehrman to incorporate material from the musical into the American History curriculum. Earlier this week, one of the theatre community's most beloved podcasts, 'The Hamilcast' celebrated two years of episodes. En route to becoming 'the official unofficial podcast of HAMILTON,' the show's creator, host, and producer Gillian Pensavalle has released more than 100 episodes, which include conversations with many of the show's performers and creators, in-depth discussions of the Ron Chernow biography that inspired the musical, and an epic, four-part October sit-down with creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, appropriately dubbed #Lintoberfest. Playwright Neeley Gossett (Alliance/Kendeda National Graduate Playwriting Competition finalist) and Actor/Playwright Steve Coulter (Edward Foote) have teamed up with Alliance Theatre Artistic Director of Theatre for Youth and Families Rosemary Newcott to develop this year's new play for middle school audiences Alice Between. Alice Between will tour to Atlanta area middle schools for several weeks and will have five public performances in the Rich Theatre at the Woodruff Arts Center, November 12 19, 2017. An unconventional convention filled with laugh-out-loud livestock-inspired comedy, Aurora Theatre will debut its 2016-17 GGC Harvel Lab Series with the Southeastern regional premiere of Singles in Agriculture, September 16- October 9! This brand-new production, written by Abby Rosebrock, brings together lonely farmers looking for love - or at least the next best thing - during an annual dating conference. With only one weekend to graze the field for eligible matches, a whole new meaning of "love birds" will be imparted on Atlanta audiences. Featuring the dynamic cast of Jeremy Aggers, Lauren Boyd and Vallea Woodbury, this hilarious presentation will prove that everything really is bigger in Texas, including how far some people will go for love! This is the story of Cindy, a 20-something whose dreams are bigger than her Midwestern hometown will allow. Set against the backdrop of New York City in the 1960s -women's liberation, the civil rights movement, and protests of the Vietnam war-Cindy searches for her place in the world. A Sign of the Times, featuring chart-topping hits from the 1960s, celebrates friendship, love, and discovering one's sense of self. This pop-fueled musical will run July 29 - September 4 at The Terris Theatre in Chester, Conn. A Sign of the Times will be sponsored by Essex Savings Bank. (more...)
