George Street Playhouse will welcome back audiences to the New Brunswick Performing Arts Center and announces casting for the upcoming production of Her Portmanteau a new play by Mfoniso Udofia, directed by Laiona Michelle.

An award-winning stage actress, she has lent her vocals to cast albums for Broadway and off-Broadway productions including Amelie, Amazing Grace, Lone Star Love, Reunion, and Inside Out. She performs with the Discoettes, a group she created with her ‘sister-friends,’ fellow performers Carmen Ruby Floyd and Laiona Michelle. 

 Broadway Black presents The 2nd Annual Antonyo Awards, which honors Black theatre artists during the 2021-2022 season. The live, in-person ceremony will be held on Monday, October 10 at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem (253 West 125th Street). Awards in 29 competitive categories and five honorary categories will be presented along with performances and guest appearances.

The lineup of custom Judy Garland Art has been announced as part of the 10th annual “Night Of A Thousand Judys” – the Pride concert to benefit The Ali Forney Center written and hosted by Justin Elizabeth Sayre – at Joe’s Pub on Sunday, June 5. The Ali Forney Center is the nation’s largest agency dedicated to helping LGBTQ homeless youth. The auction, which takes place at the concert to raise additional funds for The Ali Forney Center, features work by Hanna Barczyk (United States), Chris Gash (United States), Dana Ledl (Czech Republic), Daniel Nolen (United States), Kati Szilagyi (Germany) and Gaurab Thakali (England). Olivier winner and Tony nominee Tracie Bennett (Hangmen, End of the Rainbow) and Laiona Michelle (Little Girl Blue, Amazing Grace) have joined the line-up for the 10th annual “Night Of A Thousand Judys.'

Head over to the Green Room 42 on 6/02 to celebrate the work of Live & In Color and all the artists that have come through their doors! The fundraiser will be hosted by Tony Award Winner BD Wong and will feature songs from all the different pieces Live & In Color has created throughout the years. This concert will be a fundraiser to help support the company's mission to develop talent with the goal of diversity and inclusion at its core.

Little Girl Blue (LGB), the musical inspired by the legendary singer/songwriter and activist Nina Simone, will end its successful run at New World Stages this week on May 29.

Arthur Giron, playwright, passed away February 2, 2022. A memorial for Giron will be taking place at the Cherry Lane Theatre, Thursday, May 26 at noon, open to the public. 

The 2022 Lilly Award winners have been announced. The Lillys celebrate, fund, and fight for women by promoting gender and racial parity in the American theatre.

Little Girl Blue announced it will extend its run at the New World Stages through May 29th.

The 37th Annual Lucille Lortel Awards for Outstanding Achievement Off-Broadway was presented on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at NYU Skirball.
