Recently, we had the chance to speak with Max Bennett, who plays the role of Saturninus in Titus Andronicus. We discussed how he first got started in the world of theatre, what it’s like performing at the Hampstead Theatre and even how Shakespeare helped him understand musicals!

Two joints, both alike in dignity: Monty’s Tacos and Caps Bar. The high street isn’t big enough for the rival families. Shakespeare’s tale of young love and civil bloodshed comes alive in a gripping community-oriented rendition at Stratford East. Adapted by Kwame Owusu and co-directed by Emily Ling Williams and Malik Nashad Sharpe (who also choreographed it), it sees a staggering 38-strong cast of professional performers alongside young artists from the venue’s own training program and representatives of the public. The result is a fresh, energetic, galvanising production infused with music and dance that digs into the more romantic side of the play to deliver an excessively naive interpretation. It’s a springboard for many members of the acting company, but the vision lacks stability.

Lyric Hammersmith Theatre has announced the initial casting for the new summer musical FANGIRLS. The musical will have its UK premiere at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre from 13 July – 24 August.

The Bush Theatre has announced a change to its Literary team along with the new members of its 2023 Emerging Writers Group (EWG).  This year's cohort will be Kaleya Baxe, Yasmine Dankwah, Aaron Kilercioglu, Lare Ofeyusi, Mwansa Phiri, Tanya Shamil.

Rehearsal images have been released for the world premiere of Lyonesse by Penelope Skinner, directed by Ian Rickson and produced by Sonia Friedman Productions. This searingly funny and passionate new play stars Kristin Scott Thomas and Lily James alongside James Corrigan, Doon Mackichan and Sara Powell.  It will run at Harold Pinter Theatre from 17 October – 23 December 2023. The Royal Shakespeare Company has announced details of the final 37 Plays selected for its nationwide playwriting search: an ambitious new initiative open to anybody from anywhere in the UK.

A new adaptation of Euripides' Greek tragedy The Bacchae by Katherine Soper (Evening Standard Award winner for Most Promising Playwright), directed by Kwame Owusu and commissioned for the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre's ground-breaking performance training programme, SPRINGBOARD, will run in the Studio from Thursday 20 -  Saturday 22 July 2023.
