GHOSTS, A SLOW FIRE and More Set for Jermyn Street Theatre 2026 Autumn Season

Jermyn Street Theatre’s Artistic Director Stella Powell-Jones, Co-Artistic Director and Executive Producer David Doyle and Executive Director Penny Horner, unveiled its 2026 Autumn season.

The season opens with the UK premiere of Tony and Olivier-award winner Simon Stephens’ new play A Slow Fire. Originally staged at Glass Mask Theatre in Dublin earlier this year and directed by Rex Ryan, the play follows two men trapped in a bunker navigating grief, memory and humanity’s search for meaning after a global catastrophe. The production opens on 25 August, with previews from 20 August, and runs until 26 September.

This will be followed by the revival of Richard Eyre’s critically acclaimed adaptation of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen, in a new production directed by Kwame Owusu. Exploring family secrets, moral duty, and the pressures of social expectation through the Alving family; Eyre’s adaptation remains eerily current in its examination of morality. The production opens on 14 October, with previews from 8 October, and runs until 14 November. Earlier this month Owusu co-directed Jermyn Street Theatre’s 12-hour epic production of Derek Walcott’s poem Omeros alongside Emily Aboud, featuring a cast of 30 actors.

Casting for A Slow Fire and Ghosts will be announced at a later date.

A SLOW FIRE

By Simon Stephens
Director: Rex Ryan
20 August – 26 September 2026

The hope is what matters.
Years after the apocalypse, Ashton and Reese survive in a bunker on the edge of an imaginary city. Searching for hope, they spend their days acting out stories from the before times. When a stranger appears, is he here to save them? Or is he telling a tale too good to be true?

The staggering new play from Tony and Olivier award winning Simon Stephens is part thriller, part excavation of the soul. Rex Ryan directs this UK premiere.

GHOSTS

Written by Henrik Ibsen
Adapted by Richard Eyre

Director: Kwame Owusu
8 October - 14 November 2026

They don’t die. They don’t vanish. They walk the world again.
Norway, 1890. Years ago, Helene sent her beloved son away from the family home. Today, Oswald returns. His arrival coincides with the grand opening of an orphanage to commemorate the tenth anniversary of his father’s death. But as mother and son reunite, long-buried secrets emerge - setting off a chain reaction that threatens to consume them both.

Carne Deputy Director Kwame Owusu directs Richard Eyre’s powerful adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts. This family drama examines our hunger to be free - from our past, society, and destiny - and the cost on the people that we love the most.
