The Public Theater announced today that Jeanie O'Hare has been named the Director of New Work Development. O'Hare, who will start at The Public in September, has more than 20 years of experience, working with leading theater companies in Britain and most recently serving as the Chair of Playwriting at the Yale School of Drama.

She comes from a family in which her father wanted a male child, so he calls her 'boy,' has a mother who didn't know she was pregnant and when Matilda came along was irritated because it interfered with Mrs. Wormwood entering dancing competitions and carrying on an affair with her dance instructor, and whose fellow students think she is odd because she likes school and knows all the answers.

The Tony Award® winning MATILDA THE MUSICAL will close on January 1, 2017, it was announced today. By then, it will have played 37 previews, 1,555 regular performances, and one Actors Fund performance. The production opened on April 11, 2013 (previews began March 4) at the Shubert Theatre (225 West 44th Street). MATILDA THE MUSICAL has paid back its $16 million investment on Broadway, making the show a rare hit simultaneously on Broadway and in London's West End.
Casting has been announced for George Bernard Shaw's THE PHILANDERER at the Orange Tree Theatre.
