Emmy and Peabody Award-winning actor, director, educator and lifelong children’s literacy advocate LeVar Burton was previously announced by the Tournament of Roses as this year’s Grand Marshall.

Joeclyn Bioh's Merry Wives makes a play written by a white man in England 300 years ago speak to the experience of Black Americans and West African immigrants living in Harlem in 2021. Merry Wives is a vastly enjoyable piece of theater, a celebration of Black joy. After the past year, it is exactly the type of theater we need.

The Public Theater will begin performances of the 2021 Free Shakespeare in the Park production of MERRY WIVES on Tuesday, July 6 at The Delacorte Theater. The all-Black staging of the delightful comedy will officially open on Tuesday, July 27 and was recently extended by three weeks to now end on Saturday, September 18.

Hosted by Wayne Brady, the evening raised nearly $2 million, which will be used to support those in the industry who benefit from MPTF’s charitable programs and services, especially during this unprecedented time.
