The Folger Shakespeare Library has announced its slate of free summer programming for the months of July and August, 2024.

The Old Globe today announced plans for the long-awaited full reopening of its three theatres in Balboa Park. Audiences will be able to once again gather in the Globe’s outdoor theatre starting June 4 and in the two indoor theatres in September.

As the world catches glimpses of a return to normalcy and dares to imagine a time when we can once again gather together in our theatre spaces, The Old Globe will produce a hybrid of digital and in-person offerings that encompasses a broad range of thrilling theatre created by a diverse group of major talents.

The Old Globe announced today it will present the eighth annual Powers New Voices Festival, four days of readings of new plays by some of the most exciting voices writing for the American theatre today. This year's event will be presented virtually for the first time, streaming online January 21–24, 2021 on the free virtual Hopin platform. The Festival is free to the public, but reservations are required.

The Old Globe today announced the cast and creative team of its 23rd annual production of Dr. Seuss's How the Grinch Stole Christmas!, which this year will be presented by KPBS Radio in San Diego as a free audio-only production. Due to the ongoing pandemic, The Old Globe is unable to produce the San Diego favorite on its stage this year.

The Old Globe announced today their upcoming roster of free digital arts-engagement programs created specifically for online audiences. After pivoting to digital platforms due to COVID-19, The Old Globe continues to offer excellent workshops, classes, and events on their social media platforms, as well as on The Old Globe's website.

The Old Globe's Erna Finci Viterbi Artistic Director Barry Edelstein today announced the appointment of Freedome Bradley-Ballentine as Associate Artistic Director. In addition to his expanded role in the Globe's Artistic Department, Bradley-Ballentine will continue overseeing the Globe's nationally recognized arts engagement programs.

In response to Covid-19, Diversionary's annual Spark New Play Festival will be performed as audiocasts and offered exclusively on the Diversionary website. Readings of four fascinating contemporary works by exceptional playwrights never before performed in San Diego will be offered in audiocast form over a two month period. All audiocast readings are offered free to the public. 

The Old Globe's first coLAB PRIDE Celebration, in collaboration with Diversionary Theatre and San Diego Pride, will feature live-streamed performances of short plays by LGBTQ+ playwrights Shairi Engle, Jaime Estepa, Katherine Harroff, and Miki Vale, with additional material created by Teen-Versionary and the Stonewall Salona?"two of Diversionary's arts education programs serving teenagers and the older generation, under the direction of Diversionary's Director of Arts Education and Outreach and this event's co-producer, Skyler Sullivan.

The Old Globe, in collaboration with the George L. Stevens Seniors Resource Center, presents our fourth annual Juneteenth performance presentation as part of the Center's Juneteenth festival.
