It's just another Rotten Monday to start the work week as rehearsals begin today, Monday, February 9, for the completely original new musical comedy Something Rotten!, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw (The Book of Mormon, Aladdin), with music and lyrics by Grammy Award winner Wayne Kirkpatrick and Golden Globe Award nominee Karey Kirkpatrick and a book by Karey Kirkpatrick and best-selling author John O'Farrell.

Broadway producers announced today that Something Rotten!, an original new musical, will forego its previously scheduled world premiere production at The 5th Avenue Theatre, and open directly at the St. James Theater on Broadway this spring. Earlier today it ws announced that Side Show will close at the St James Theatre in January, and according to the New York Times, Something Rotten! might takeover the space. A New York City developmental lab was held this fall, under the direction of Casey Nicholaw. Leading the cast (of the Lab, and not necessarily future productions) were Christian Borle, John Cariani, Allen Fitzpatrick, Brian d'Arcy James, Beth Leavel, Brad Oscar, Kate Reinders, Jeff Steizter, and Gerry Vichi.

The Smurfs are making a tiny impression with THE SMURFS 2's blue first week in theaters. After five days, the movie's total domestic gross is sitting at $27.8 million, according to Deadline.com. This is far behind the $35.6 million the 2011 Smurfs pic drew in its first three days.
