Cast members from the hit musical Kinky Boots wowed an invited audience earlier this week as they visited the city to launch their upcoming visit to Edinburgh Playhouse this Christmas season.

Kinky Boots, the winner of every major Best Musical award, is pleased to announce casting for the upcoming UK tour. Callum Francis will play Lola until 15 December 2018 and Kayi Ushe will play the role from 17 December 2018. Paula Lane, known for her role as Kylie Platt in Coronation Street will play Lauren and Joel Harper-Jackson will play Charlie.

Mercury Theatre Colchester and TBO Productions present the world premiere of their brand-new musical - Pieces of String, with book, music and lyrics by Gus Gowland. Ryan McBryde directs Carol Starks (Jane), Andy Coxon (Ed), Marilyn Cutts (Rose), Ella Dunlop (Gemma), Lauren Hall (Anna), Joel Harper-Jackson (Tom), Craig Mather (Edward) and Gary Wood (Harry). Open auditions were held in Colchester to cast Young Rose, and the part will be alternated by three young people local to the theatre. Pieces of String, designed by 2017 Linbury Prize Finalist Fin Redshaw, opens on 27 April at the Mercury, with previews from 20 April and runs until 5 May.

Celebrating 45 years since Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's seminal musical first hit the stage, Jesus Christ Superstar just opened at Regent's Park's Open Air Theatre, and already the production is eying the West End, according to the New York Post's Michael Riedel.
He writes: 'I'm told Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice wouldn't mind a Broadway production either.'
