Philly POPS Announces 40th Anniversary Season

The Philly POPS announced its 40th Anniversary 2018-19 concert season today. Subscriptions for this celebratory 40th Anniversary Season go on sale at 10 a.m. Moe Septee founded the POPS in November 1979 with a concert at the Academy of Music. Celebrated jazz pianist Peter Nero conducted the POPS from 1979 until 2013.
Audible Will Award $5 Million in Commissions to Emerging Playwrights

Audible Inc., the world's largest producer and provider of downloadable audiobooks and other spoken-word entertainment, today announced the first class of theater commissions selected to receive support from its fund dedicated to the commission and development of innovative English-language works from playwrights around the globe. Announced earlier this year, the $5 million fund will enable the creation of one- and two-person audio plays driven by language and voice, in keeping with Audible's core commitment to elevating listening experiences through powerful performances of brilliantly composed words.
Old Globe Opens Season with World Premiere of HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL

The Old Globe today announced that its 2018-2019 Season will kick off with the world premiere of the new musical Heart of Rock and Roll, inspired by the songs of Huey Lewis and the News, featuring a book by Jonathan Abrams and story by Tyler Mitchell and Jonathan Abrams. It will be directed by Gordon Greenberg with choreography by Lorin Latarro and music supervision, arrangements, and orchestrations by Brian Usifer. Heart of Rock and Roll will bepresented by special arrangement with Tyler Mitchell, W. Leo Kiely, Bill Kiely, Whitney Kiely Moehle, and Tamar Climan. Referred to as "Billy Joel's Right Hand Piano Man" (Billboard), Mike DelGuidice, a long-time member of Billy Joel's band, will perform the music of Billy Joel with his band Big Shot in the intimate, indoor Event Gallery at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on Saturday, May 5 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets go on-sale to the general public Wednesday, February 14th at 10:00 a.m. at www.BethelWoodsCenter.org.

It was revealed today that a new musical inspired by the iconic songs of Huey Lewis and The News is coming to the stage. The book by Jonathan Abrams, based on an original story by Tyler Mitchell and Mr. Abrams, features chart-topping hits such as 'The Power of Love,' 'Stuck with You,' 'Hip to Be Square,' 'If This Is It,' and many more. Heart of Rock and Roll is directed by Gordon Greenberg.
