The winners of the 30th Annual Art Directors Guild Excellence in Production Design Awards were announced this weekend, with KPop Demon Hunters, Frankenstein, Mid-Century Modern, and more among the honorees.

THE WIZ will return to Chicago as part of Broadway In Chicago’s touring season with a limited engagement at the James M. Nederlander Theatre. The national tour includes Dana Cimone, Alan Mingo Jr., Sheherazade, Kyla Jade, D. Jerome, Cal Mitchell, and Elijah Ahmad Lewis.

The Tony Award-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm is back and coming to Austin. Tickets for The Wiz will go on sale Friday, Jan. 30, for eight performances from May 12 to 17 at Bass Concert Hall.

Opening Night of The Wiz at Broadway San Jose was dazzling, the kind of evening that reminds you why musical theater, at its best, feels communal, electric, and alive. The Art Directors Guild has revealed the nominees for its 30th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards, which include the 78th Annual Tony Awards, Wicked: For Good, and NBC's Wicked: One Wonderful Night special. 

The Set Decorators Society of America has announced the nominations for the SDSA Awards for Film 2025, including Wicked: For Good, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Hamnet, and more.

Jessie Buckley won the Critics Choice Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film adaptation of Hamnet. Wicked: For Good, which received 7 nominations, did not win any. Check out the full list here!

The national tour of The Wiz is a high-energy, visually stunning experience that’s taking Minneapolis by storm at the Orpheum Theatre. Running from December 16 to 21, 2025, this revival of the Tony Award-winning musical brings new life to the classic story, with a fresh take that feels as relevant and exciting today as it did when it first hit Broadway. THE WIZ is back and coming to San Jose’s Center for the Performing Arts for a limited engagement. The musical features a book by William F. Brown and a Tony Award-winning score by Charlie Smalls (and others).

Wicked: For Good has received 7 nominations at the 31st annual Critics Choice Awards, including Best Picture. Other notable nominees in various categories include Hamnet, Blue Moon, The Testament of Ann Lee, and Kiss of the Spider Woman.

Tickets for the Milwaukee engagement of THE WIZ will go on sale November 14 at 10 a.m. ahead of the production’s one-week run at the Marcus Performing Arts Center from March 24–29, 2026.

What did our critic think of THE WIZ at Citizens Opera House?

The Wiz is an all-Black musical reimagining of L. Frank Baum’s 1900 classic children’s novel, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The story follows Dorothy, a young girl who lives on a farm in Kansas, until a cyclone arrives, picks up her house, and blows her away to the fantastical land of Oz.

A surprising, bright, and entertaining production of THE WIZ opened Tuesday night at Kansas City’s Music Hall to an almost full house for a one week run.  THE WIZ is the season closer for American Theatre Guild’s 2024-2025 season.  I’m not sure what I was expecting with THE WIZ, but I found myself being grabbed from the very first number and thoroughly entertained.

PNC Broadway in Kansas City will present the Tony Award-winning Best Musical that took the world by storm, THE WIZ. This production closes out the 24–25 PNC BROADWAY IN KANSAS CITY season and will take the Music Hall stage for 8 performances.

Technical difficulties once again take centerstage at the Buell for the latest National Tour to come to Denver. The Wiz got off to a late start and even later second act after audio equipment failed. I am not sure if these issues are specific to the touring productions or if the problems are in-house. Eitherway, they seem to be happening more frequently in a space that already has problems with the acoustics.
