Up on the Marquee: SLAVE PLAY Arrives on Broadway

Producers Greg Nobile and Jana Shea of Seaview Productions, Troy Carter, Level Forward, and Nine Stories, founded by Jake Gyllenhaal and Riva Marker, have now officially announced that Slave Play, by Jeremy O. Harris, directed by Robert O'Hara, will be coming to Broadway's Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) this fall. The strictly limited 17-week engagement will begin preview performances Tuesday, September 10, ahead of an official opening night of Sunday, October 6.

Ali Gatie Shares Acoustic Version Of IT'S YOU

Today, Toronto artist Ali Gatie releases an acoustic version of his runaway hit “It's You” via Warner Records. When Ali first recorded “It's You,' it was a short video clip of this acoustic version which he posted on Instagram of him singing it in the studio that brought interest around the song to a fever pitch online. The acoustic track now arrives as the demo was originally recorded and around all of the recent success of the previously released version (which has amassed over 148 million cumulative streams across platforms globally, currently climbing the Billboard Hot 100 chart). In a recent interview, Billboard said, 'Even if you've never experienced heartbreak, Ali Gatie's music might have you wishing you had.'

BWW Review: Lerner & Loewe's PAINT YOUR WAGON Is Pure Gold

Few people seem to be familiar with Lerner & Loewe's Paint Your Wagon. Those who are usually mention the 1969 film of the same title, starring Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood, known for being a ridiculously miscast and embarrassingly terrible flop. The musical, which originally appeared on Broadway in 1951, is similarly messy, and has gone pretty much unproduced for decades. Fortunately, however, playwright Jon Marans has redrafted the book, top-to-bottom, enhancing both the story line and its characters, and the result is a shiny-new masterpiece with new orchestrations and new dance and vocal arrangements. It is now an entirely enjoyable musical, complex in its structure, with an interesting setting, compelling plot, nuanced layers, appropriate social commentary, and characters...

To celebrate his ten years in L.A., Gustavo Dudamel conducted a special anniversary concert complete with fireworks and featured members of YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) and Russian piano virtuoso, Khatia Buniatishvili. The evening's performance includes music from well-known films of Hollywood's golden age.
