This November, The Dante Project returns to the Royal Opera House. Created by Resident Choreographer of The Royal Ballet Wayne McGregor, the work opened to critical acclaim in 2021 and now receives its much-anticipated first revival. 

The Royal Opera House has announced that Tosca will be released on Royal Opera House Stream this June. Jonathan Kent’s taut and intense production of one of the best loved operas in the repertory thrills from the demonic chords with which it begins, right through to the violent twist of its shock ending.

Ivan Putrov’s annual celebration of the male dancer returns to the Coliseum with a diverse programme of work, old and new. “Ballet conjures up an image of tutus and pointe shoes,” he says, keen to showcase what else the art form can offer since 2012.

This autumn, Men in Motion celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special one-off performance featuring 18 internationally renowned dancers performing over 20 pieces from much-loved classical ballets and contemporary works, at the London Coliseum on Sunday 6 November.

Mayerling, Kenneth MacMillan's dark tale of dangerous obsession, returns to the Royal Opera House to open The Royal Ballet's 2022/23 season. Based on the true story of the murder-suicide scandal that plagued the Austro-Hungarian empire, Mayerling follows the events leading to the violent deaths of Crown Prince Rudolf and his mistress Baroness Mary Vetsera.  

This autumn, Men in Motion celebrates its 10th anniversary with a special one-off performance at the London Coliseum on Sunday 6 November. Originally conceived a decade ago by Ivan Putrov, dancer, producer and former Principal of The Royal Ballet, Men in Motion sees the male dancer take centre stage, showcasing the development and evolution of men in ballet over the last century.

Director of The Royal Ballet Kevin O'Hare has announced promotions, new joiners and leavers for The Royal Ballet's 2022/23 Season.

Celebrated Royal Ballet Principal Dancer Edward Watson makes his final performance with the Company on Saturday 30th October in Wayne McGregor's critically acclaimed new work The Dante Project.

Dante Alighieri is frequently said to be the Italian William Shakspeare, and he certainly is in many aspects. Often pictured from his side - with prominent nose, laurel crown, and red tunic becoming the stars of his portraits - he somewhat invented the Italian language before modern Italy was even conceived as an ideal. The English wouldn’t meet their Bard for a further two centuries.

The Royal Opera House has shared early plans for its 2021/22 Season, the first full Royal Opera House Season since 2019.   

English National Balleta??s Emerging Dancer marks the companya??s first live performance since lockdown and the opener to their newly curated Digital Season as a response to the current COVID-19 restrictions. The annual award sees six dancers from the most junior rank of the company perform a classical as de deux in three pairs, and historically a contemporary solo, although this year saw three first duets featuring original choreography (presumably for bubbling/distancing reasons).

The Royal Ballet is Back on Stage and returns for a special live-streamed celebration performance on Friday 9 October at 7.30pm BST.

English National Ballet today has announced its revised plans for Autumn 2020, as the Company's previously scheduled performances have been cancelled due to the continuing impact of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

The second opportunity for online audiences to enjoy some Royal Ballet repertoire over lockdown is Christopher Wheeldon's adaptation of The Winter's Tale. First premiering in 2014, it has proved popular with ballet fans and has subsequently been programmed in 2016 (this recording) and 2018.

Belgian-born Sander Blommaert is a former dancer with The Royal Ballet and a qualified, award-winning ballet teacher who splits a busy career between teaching at Elmhurst Ballet School, Birmingham with his own summer school, workshops and private coaching in and out of the Midlands.

Manfred Thierry Mugler and Wayne McGregor are such renowned names in their respective fields, a collaboration between them need only be eponymously titled. But for the thrill of the glamour and high-fashion of McGregor + Mugler, this short duet for Edward Watson or the Royal Ballet and Olga Smirnova of the Bolshoi forms only a small segment of an unusual and intriguing triple bill.
