The Illustrious Blacks Will Host the Bessie Awards Ceremony

The New York Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, announce the lineup of special guests for the 39th Bessie Awards Ceremony. Acclaimed queer pop duo The Illustrious Blacks (Manchildblack x Monstah Black) will host this year’s ceremony, which will be held on Friday, August 4, at 7:30pm, at Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park as part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City.

Black Dance Stories announced its dynamic lineup of Black dance creatives for November. Consistent with the tradition of Black artists finding a way for their voices to be heard during turbulent times, the popular series features Black artists who use their work to raise societal issues and strengthen community through art.

Clark Center NYC is proud to present their Second Annual Dance Showcase as part of celebrating the 60th anniversary of the initial founding of the Clark Center for the Performing Arts. The program will be repeated on two evenings, Tuesday, October 15th, and Wednesday October 16th at 7 pm at El Barrio Artspace PS 109 located at 215 East 99th Street, between Second and Third Avenues. The NY Dance and Performance Awards, The Bessies, New York City's premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field, celebrates a landmark 35th anniversary this year. Today, the nominees for the 2019 Bessie Awards, along with the recipients of the 2019 Juried Bessie Award and 2019 Outstanding Breakout Choreographer Award, were announced and celebrated at the Bessies press conference. Come Back Once Morereflects the historic resilience, compassion and heart of the LGBTQ community.Proceeds from the four upcoming performances, June 14th - 17th at The Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater (405 West 55th Street, New York City), will benefit the Ali Forney Center, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, GMHC and Live Out Loud.

October 25-28, 2018 marked the 2018 American Dance Guild Performance Festival: Visions- Then and Now as the Guild celebrates 61 years of service to dance. This year's showcase brought a program of dances both old and new featuring the work of modern dance legends Jane Dudley and the late Donald McKayle. The weekend also recognized two-time BESSIE award winner Jane Comfort and the inimitable Eleo Pomare for this year's Lifetime Awards.
