Broadway Records announced today the release of the world premiere recording of MY MARCELLO, a new musical based on the motion picture For Roseanna by Saul Turtletaub. With music by Rosabella Gregory, lyrics by Dina Gregory and book by Corey Brunish, the recording features performances by two-time Tony Award winner Santino Fontana and more.
Last seen in the title role of Aladdin, Telly Leung (he/him) lends his talents to “The World Was Dancing” for the evening. Another Aladdin alum, Michael James Scott (he/him) will take on the soaring, penultimate number “Flying Home” before returning to the New Amsterdam this fall. Following her recent turn in the Broadway company of Wicked, Tony nominee Nancy Opel (she/her) will show off her comedic chops in “Just One Step,” while Bre Jackson (The Color Purple, The Book of Mormon; she/her) gives voice to “The Flagmaker, 1775.”
Onstage, Tony nominee Derek Klena has played a lot of roles that could be best described as 'heels,' well-meaning guys who go horribly wrong due to a lapse in good judgment. It comes as a pleasant surprise to find out that Derek Klena, actor, singer, cabaret performer, is in truth a genuinely affable, kind, thoughtful guy. He is also a prodigiously talented one. In the decade he has been working in New York he has racked up some impressive credits including Carrie, Dogfight, Wicked, The Bridges of Madison County, Anastasia, and Jagged Little Pill. Jason Gotay, who currently stars as teacher Rafa Caparros on Gossip Girl, will take the stage on August 2nd.
