BWW Review: SYLVIA: The Lady Is A TrampBWW Review: SYLVIA: The Lady Is A Tramp
by Nancy Grossman - Apr 20, 2019

Theater UnCorked drains the bottle of its inaugural season this weekend with a fully-staged production of SYLVIA, prolific playwright A.R. Gurney's homage to man's best friend. Hilarious and heartwarming in equal measure, the play is a welcome respite from the spate of heftier, more serious dramatic works meant to resonate with our times and make us think. Supported by strong performances by Allan Mayo, Kimberly McClure, and David Anderson, Theater UnCorked's Artistic Director Shana Dirik is the top dog. (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Sep 21, 2018

'The story of my life's written on my skin,' sings Edward David Anderson on the devilishly sardonic “Bad Tattoos” from his soon to be released Chasing Butterflies (Black Dirt Records - Oct. 19, 2018). The song, like the artist, is brutally honest and has a worn feel; like it's coming from someone that has been around and put in the miles. 'I don't think I could have written these tunes when I was 25,' Anderson explains. 'Everything I've done, the people I've met, all the places I've been, have brought me to this moment.' (more...)

by Nancy Grossman - May 4, 2018

LOVE! VALOUR! COMPASSION! by Terrence McNally won the 1995 Tony Award for Best Play and, although much has changed in the ensuing twenty-four years since it opened at the Manhattan Theatre Club, as a slice of gay life, it withstands the test of time. On each of the three major summer weekends, eight gay male friends gather at one's sprawling lakeside country house in Dutchess County to dish, dine, and dance. President Bill Clinton was in his first term, the AIDS epidemic infiltrated every aspect of the gay community, and the fragility of life weighed on the hearts and minds of these close friends.
