Review: THE WEEKEND: A STOCKBRIDGE STORY at Barrington Stage Company

Despite a few slower moments, the 90-minute production (presented without intermission) is quite delightful. While we are led to believe that unfulfilled kismet and the chance to right missed opportunity are the crux of the matter, twists and turns that I won’t spoil, yield a larger look at life itself through the eyes of these mid-life friends and family folks that Berkshire region residents or visitors will undoubtedly find rather familiar. I think it rather likely that most will find, as I did, much to relate as the characters and their reality unfold. The peppering of local references throughout do indeed provide many winks, nods, and even a couple of a-ha moments.

Review: CATCH ME IF YOU CAN at Murry's Dinner Playhouse in Little Rock

Bring your appetite and your funny bone, because Murry’s Dinner Playhouse in Little Rock is serving up a suspenseful and hilarious treat with Catch Me If You Can by Jack Weinstock and Willie Gilbert, directed by Roger M. Eaves and running through October 4. Not to be confused with the musical or the Spielberg film, this version is a mid-20th-century comedy-mystery adapted from Robert Thomas’s French play Trap for a Lonely Man. From start to finish, you will laugh and laugh at the witty banter, the quirky characters, and the absurd situations that pile up, all while the mystery keeps you on edge.

A History of Three-Handers on Broadway

While a lot has been written about two handers, a term for two-person shows, less has been penned about three-handers. Yet, three-person plays are just as common a genre on Broadway as pieces with only two players. Currently, Art, by Yasmina Reza, is receiving an all-star revival at the Music Box.

Review: THE SICILIAN VESPERS, Royal Ballet & Opera

The Sicilian Vespers is always going to be a challenging proposition. In a move smacking of sheer hubris, Verdi’s original version lasted over four hours and featured half an hour of ballet partway through. Stefan Herheim's production for the Royal Ballet & Opera removes that dance sequence but transports the plot from Palermo to Paris with the Sicilian rebel leader Jean Procida now portrayed as a mutinous ballet master. What next: Che Guevara as a South Kensington Zumba instructor?
