Performances of BAD ROADS continue to sell out in rapid succession. The production is now on stage until December 3 only.

It's a fascinating, disturbing work with a powerhouse cast, literally unsettling: never completely relaxing into a style or structure, it stretches deep into the monstrous before snapping back to remind us that the high and low road often originate from the same place.

Tonight, the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards ceremony and award presentation hosted by Craig Lauzon occurred at the TELUS Centre for Performance and Learning, Koerner Hall.

At a press conference held at Meridian Hall, the Toronto Alliance for the  Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 228 nominations for the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in professional theatre, dance and opera in Toronto for the 2022-2023 season. Also announced at the press conference was the recipient of the Province of Ontario’s Pauline McGibbon Award. 

The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced today the 43rd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards will return to an early summer celebration on Tuesday, June 27th, 2023.

A groundbreaking adaptation of Commander Chris Hadfield's internationally bestselling children's book, The Darkest Dark, is set to take flight at Young People's Theatre (YPT) this February. In this highly anticipated world premiere, director Jim Millan (Broadway's record-breaking The Illusionists), writer Ian MacIntyre (The Beaverton, Degrassi: Next Class) and world renowned illusionist David Ben weave multi-media and magic in an out-of-this-world theatrical experience.

At a press conference held at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in the Richard Bradshaw Amphitheatre, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 235 nominations for the 42nd Annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards, which recognize excellence in professional theatre, dance and opera in Toronto.

“Isn’t it funny how nothing ever happens?” That line from Lisa D’Amour’s DETROIT, now playing at the Coal Mine Theatre, could be the motto for its portrayal of suburban ennui. D’Amour’s sharp script and the cast’s committed performances make this show feel vital and present – like, perhaps, something is happening after all.

Due to reasons beyond her control, Tommie-Amber Pirie will no longer be appearing in  the Coal Mine's production of DETROIT. Louise Lambert will be taking over the role of Sharon. Because of this change, previews will be moved to July 8th and 9th and Opening Night will be on July 10th.

What did our critic think? Soulpepper Theatre along with Native Earth Performing Arts presents Where the Blood Mixes written by Kevin Loring. This production, directed by Jani Lauzon, is a story about loss, reconnection, and generational trauma brought about by the hands of those in charge at the St George's Residential School in Lytton, BC.

Following a universally acclaimed return to in-person theatre with the just closed run of Annie Baker's THE ANTIPODES, Coal Mine Theatre is proud to announce casting for the Toronto premiere of the award-winning DETROIT by Lisa D'Amour. With direction by Jill Harper, this production concludes the company's exciting seventh season and runs in-person from July 3rd to August 7th (Opening July 6th) at its Danforth Theatre.

Today, Crow's Theatre Artistic Director Chris Abraham and Executive Director Sherrie Johnson announced the casts for two Crow's Theatre Productions this season that include Kristen Johnson, Ahmed Moneka, Ali Kazmi, Craig Lauzon, and Eric Peterson. 

Productions from the Stratford Festival’s 2021 season begin streaming this Thursday, September 2, with a ticketed viewing party of selections from Why We Tell the Story: A Celebration of Black Musical Theatre on Stratfest@Home, the Festival’s streaming platform. After what feels like an eternity, Shakespeare has made its triumphant return to the Stratford Festival. Peter Pasyk’s production of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM opened last week and this writer had the opportunity to take in a midday production at the Tom Patterson Theatre Canopy on Sunday. With eight performers taking on a multitude of roles, this production appropriately feels like a fever dream. The performers are up to the task – with some actors taking on three different roles, providing a fun and whimsical experience for an audience that has been waiting for so long to see live theatre again! Boy, is it good to be back!

Spellbound lovers, quarrelling fairies, tradesmen with a fervour for amateur theatricals: they’re all mixed up together in the surreal world of Shakespeare’s great comedy of dreaming and desire.

The Ontario government has issued its guidance for attendance at outdoor performing arts events, paving the way for the opening of the Stratford Festival’s 2021 season. According to these guidelines, the Stratford Festival will be able to accommodate 100 people (or 25% capacity) in each of its new outdoor canopies.

The Stratford Festival is transforming, for this summer, into an outdoor festival offering a season of six plays and five cabarets reflecting on the theme of Metamorphosis, with performances held under beautiful canopies that will hark back to the Festival’s founding under a tent in 1953.

The first reading is Heartbreak House by George Bernard Shaw and directed by Richard Ouzounian to be streamed on April 7, 2021 at 7pm.  This this one-time event will star Tony Award winner Len Cariou, best known for his portrayal of 'Sweeney Todd' in the original cast of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street and Film, Television and Stage icon Ed Asner.
