This year's Tony Awards nominations were announced this morning by Lea Michele and Myles Frost and here they are, celebrating the best of the 2022-23 theatre season.

The 76th Annual Tony Award Nominations will be announced on Tuesday, May 2, by Lea Michele and Myles Frost. The announcement can be viewed LIVE (9am ET) in their entirety here on BroadwayWorld.

The Outer Critics Circle has announced the nominees for the 72nd Annual Outer Critics Circle Awards, honoring the 2022-2023 Broadway and Off-Broadway season. Leading the pack with the most honors of the season is the Broadway musical New York, New York, with twelve nominations. Fantasia Barrino leads the cast of the film as Celie. Danielle Brooks will reprise her Tony-nominated performance as Sofia, which we played in the musical's 2016 revival. Taraji P. Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington will reprise their Broadway performances in the upcoming film adaptation of The Piano Lesson, which is currently set for a Netflix premiere. Malcolm Washington will direct the upcoming feature, which will also include Danielle Deadwyler, Michael Potts, Corey Hawkins, and Ray Fisher.

The film stars Corey Hawkins (In the Heights, The Color Purple) as Clemens, a doctor who joins the Demeter crew, Aisling Franciosi (Game of Thrones, The Nightingale) as an unwitting stowaway, Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones, Clash of the Titans) as the ship’s captain and more. As BroadwayWorld previously announced, a movie musical film adaptation of Alice Walker's The Color Purple will premiere later this year. The film, previously set to come to cinemas on December 20, has now shifted its opening day to Christmas Day, December 25.

This August, comedian, writer and actor, Deon Cole, will make his venue debut at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas, part of Curio Collection by Hilton, on Saturday, Aug. 19, 2023. Cole will bring his celebrated comedic style to the stage for a special one-night-only event. 100 meet and greet tickets will be available for $100 each on top of the selected ticket price. Netflix has ordered The Madness, a conspiracy thriller under Chernin Entertainment’s (The North Road Company) first look deal at Netflix. The series will star Colman Domingo (Zola, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Fear The Walking Dead). The eight-episode series was created and executive produced by Stephen Belber (The Laramie Project).
