Theatrical Outfit, Atlanta's second-oldest professional theatre, proudly announces its 2019-2020 Season, which also marks the final season under the leadership of Artistic Director Tom Key. The season promises to be a powerful representation of the kind of work Key loves to produce at the theatre's home in the heart of downtown Atlanta:

Theatrical Outfit, located at The Balzer Theater at Herren's on Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta, continues its 2018-2019 Season of Beauty with the Atlanta premiere of I Love to Eat, Pulitzer Prize finalist James Still's revealing and irreverent peek into the life of celebrity chef James Beard. Set in the charismatic cook's Manhattan kitchen in the middle of a sleepless night, the play flashes back to Beard's appearances on the first live TV cooking program ever in 1946 and includes appetizers for seat holders who sit close. Hilarious and heartfelt, I Love to Eat, directed by Clifton Guterman, Theatrical Outfit's Associate Artistic Director, stars Atlanta stage veteran William S. Murphey as the foodie icon and runs April 10 - May 5, 2019.

Theatrical Outfit, located at the Balzer Theater at Herren's on Luckie Street in downtown Atlanta, continues its 2018-2019 Season of Beauty with the Atlanta premiere of The Pitmen Painters, British writer Lee Hall's (Billy Elliot) dramatization of William Feaver's book about a real-life group of English miners from the Geordie region who become unexpected stars of the high society art circles of London between the World Wars. Both comedic and stirring, The Pitmen Painters, directed by Adam Koplan (Artistic Director of Flying Carpet Theatre Company and director of The Outfit's 2018 hit Perfect Arrangement), features an all-Atlanta ensemble and runs February 27 - March 24, 2019.

Welcome back to Theatrical Outfit's festival of play readings, The Unexpected Play Festival. Witness top notch talent bring characters and plots to vivid life as three new or newish scripts not only stir the soul but maybe even unsettle it. This year, four new actors join the cast - three of whom will make their Theatrical Outfit debuts. Theatrical Outfit continues its 2018-2019 Season of Beauty with the Atlanta premiere of The Royale, playwright Marco Ramirez's stylized, blazingly theatrical look at the high stakes, segregated world of boxing at the turn of the twentieth century, loosely based on the true story of the first black world heavyweight champion, Jack Johnson. Directed by frequent Theatrical Outfit collaborator Patdro Harris (Travelin' Black, Fly, and Simply Simone), The Royale runs October 10 - November 4 downtown at The Balzer Theater at Herren's.

The Suzi Bass Awards revealed nominations for the 2017-2018 Atlanta professional theatre season on Monday evening, August 27, to patrons and industry artists. The Suzi Nomination Party was generously hosted by Synchronicity Theatre, at 7:30pm, One Peachtree Pointe, 1545 Peachtree St. NE #102, Atlanta.  

This spring, Theatrical Outfit proudly presents 110 in the Shade, the sizzling Broadway musical adaptation of the beloved classic play The Rainmaker by N. Richard Nash with music and lyrics from the duo behind The Fantasticks, Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Directed by Artistic Director Tom Key with musical direction by S. Renee Clark (Big Fish, Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill) and choreography by Angela Harris, The Outfit's 110 in the Shade features a diverse ensemble of fifteen performers and concludes Theatrical Outfit's 2017- 2018 Season of Character.

To ring in the new year, Theatrical Outfit proudly stages Lady Day at Emerson's Bar & Grill, a riveting look into one of jazz and blues legend Billie Holiday's final performances, starring Atlanta's own Terry Burrell (Alliance Theatre's Ethel; Broadway's Thoroughly Modern Millie, DreamGirls, Into the Woods).
