Miami City Ballet Announces 2013-2014 Season

Miami City Ballet, hailed by The New York Times as "one of America's most beloved dance companies" proudly announces its 2013-2014 season, featuring four Company premieres by four of the world's greatest ballet and contemporary dance choreographers. This exciting season of dance marks the debut season of Miami City Ballet's new Artistic Director Lourdes Lopez.

San Francisco Ballet Will Head to New York for Two Week Engagement at Lincoln Center, 10/16-27

San Francisco Ballet, the oldest professional ballet company in America, has announced that it will perform at New York's Lincoln Center at the David H. Koch Theater, October 16-27, 2013. From October 16-20, the Company will present a variety of mixed-bill programs with works by Edwaard Liang, Serge Lifar, Wayne McGregor, Mark Morris, Alexei Ratmansky, SF Ballet Artistic Director & Principal Choreographer Helgi Tomasson, Yuri Possokhov, and Christopher Wheeldon. From October 23-27, SF Ballet presents the New York premiere of Wheeldon's lavish new full-length ballet Cinderella. Fire Island Dance Festival 2013 Raises Record $394K for Dancers Responding to AIDS

Internationally recognized dance companies and fast-rising choreographers shared the picturesque stage of the 19th annual edition of Fire Island Dance Festival on July 19-21, raising a record $393,647 for Dancers Responding to AIDS, a program of Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. For the third year in a row the festival set a fundraising record, surpassing last year's all-time high of $374,260. In its 19 editions, Fire Island Dance Festival has raised $3.3 million for the most vulnerable among us, helping to ensure they receive life-saving medications and health care, nutritious meals, counseling and emergency financial assistance.

New Musical GOD'S COUNTRY to Open 7/18 at NYMF

God's Country, an original musical by Erik Johnke (Book and Lyrics) and Elaine Chelton (Music) set in 19th Century New York City, will be presented at the 10th Annual New York Music Theatre Festival (NYMF) for five performances starting on Thursday, July 18, at 9:00 PM, at The Pershing Square Signature Center Romulus Linney Courtyard Theatre, 480 West 42nd Street. The musical is directed by Craig J. George and choreographed by Thomas-Sabella Mills. The Music Director is Bryan L. Wade.

Ware Center Screens Royal Ballet's ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND Today

The Ware Center, Millersville University Lancaster continues showing high-definition, sound surround films of recently produced operas and films. The latest to be shown today, June 30th at 3 PM will be The Royal Ballet's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland,' with music by the Royal Opera House Orchestra, conducted by David Briskin and choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon. This highly colorful production was filmed in London on March 28, 2013 and is being shown for the first time here in Lancaster.

NY Phil and Giants Are Small Open A DANCER'S DREAM Tonight

The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - tonight, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

New York City Ballet's annual Fall Gala will celebrate dance and fashion with three world premiere ballets, and costumes designed by some of the fashion world's most exciting talents. The one-time-only gala evening will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2013, and this year's participants include choreographers Benjamin Millepied, in collaboration with the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen; Justin Peck, who will create a new ballet featuring costumes by the acclaimed New York-based fashion designer Prabal Gurung; and Angelin Preljocaj, who will work with Olivier Theyskens, the Belgian-born designer who is the Artistic Director of the American fashion house Theory.

CARMEN The Met: Will be Live in HD for Summer Encores, 6/19

Called 'a gripping and brilliant production' by The New York Times, Carmen stars El?na Garan?aas the seductive gypsy, opposite Roberto Alagna as the obsessed soldier Don José. Acclaimed rising Canadian conductor Yannick Nézet-Séguin leads the Met's production by Olivier Award-winning British director Richard Eyre, which features Barbara Frittoli as Micaëla and Teddy Tahu Rhodes as the toreador Escamillo. Christopher Wheeldon, artistic director and founder of Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company, created the choreography for what remains the Met's best-selling transmission to date. Soprano Renée Fleming hosts the transmission and conducts backstage interviews with the stars.

Aurora Theatre Company Announces Call for GAP Submissions

Berkeley's acclaimed Aurora Theatre Company is proud to announce a call for submissions for its ninth season of the Global Age Project (GAP) festival of new works. The company will choose four new plays to be presented as staged readings with professional directors and actors during the GAP festival in February and March of 2014; the festival will coincide with the company's fully-staged Bay Area Premiere of Johnna Adams's incendiary new play GIDION'S KNOT, directed by Jon Tracy (The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity). Each of the four prizewinners will receive a $1,000 award and their work will be considered for further development and production during Aurora Theatre Company's regular season; out of town artists will receive travel and accommodation expenses. The submission period opens June 3; deadline for play submission is July 31, 2013. Finalists will be announced in early December 2013.

Dance Against Cancer Raises More Than $96,000

The third annual Dance Against Cancer at the AXA Equitable Theater on Monday, May 6, 2013 raised more than $96,000 for the American Cancer Society. The evening began with cocktails at 6pm, a performance at 7pm, and a reception at 8:30pm.
