CHICAGO is BACK IN TOWN, and after 25 years, CHICAGO is still the one musical with everything that makes Broadway shimmy-shake: a universal tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, with one show stopping song after another and the most astonishing dancing you’ve ever seen.
What did our critic think of CHICAGO at The Orpheum Theatre Memphis? Chicago is celebrating 25 dazzling years and it has returned to Memphis! It is certainly a fan favorite, with exhilirating dancing and an iconic story that is known around the world. The 1975 musical with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, is the 2nd longest running Broadway musical (thanks to the 1996 revival), behind fan favorite Phantom of the Opera.
When a scantily clad beauty took the stage at Robinson Center in Little Rock Friday, March 17, and said 'Welcome, ladies and gentlemen - you are about to witness a story of murder, greed, violence, exploitation, adultery and treachery: all those things we hold near and dear to our hearts,' we knew CHICAGO THE MUSICAL - America's longest running musical in Broadway History - was going to be something special. For two days, the APEX Touring Company Fosse'd their way into Central Arkansas' heart and gave us a 'Razzle Dazzle' experience that will keep us singing for a long time.
Show after show, CHICAGO makes the crowd roar and come to their feet, energizing all with its storytelling, dancing, and glamor. There is no wonder why CHICAGO has been honored with 6 Tony Awards®, a Grammy®, and thousands of standing ovations over the years, and the show is still rousing audiences in its 25th-anniversary tour stop at Houston!
One of the most fun people I've had the pleasure to speak to, Christina Wells currently lives the dream as a professional singer and motivational speaker. Now she's playing 'Mama' in the national tour of Chicago.
