Ashley Loren and Christian Douglas will be Broadway’s next Satine and Christian, respectively, in Moulin Rouge! the Musical on Broadway. They join alongside Wayne Brady as Harold Zidler and Taye Diggs as The Duke of Monroth.

Tony Award-winner Debbie Gravitte will lead a cast of Broadway veterans in a staged reading of the new musical, THE SOUND, on Sunday, November 17th at 3:00pm in Safra Hall at the Museum of Jewish Heritage.

This Juke Box Musical brings to the stage the songs you know and love from artists like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry but presented in a new and exciting story based on the beloved classic.

Arianna Rosario will step into the role of Satine in the North American tour of Moulin Rouge! the Musical beginning September 24th.  

Another season comes to a close at Des Moines Performing Arts, and they are going out with a big spectacle. On Tuesday, the tour of 'Moulin Rouge' opened at the Civic Center for a two-week run.  Having seen the show in New York in the summer of 2022, I was looking forward to seeing this show again and seeing how the show was reimagined for the tour. While I loved the impressiveness of the show on Broadway, I wondered if they could recapture that magic on the tour. Were they able to recapture that magic? Continue reading to find out.

MOULIN ROUGE The Musical Is something entirely new to the wave of Juke Box musicals overwhelming the Great White Way.  It is big, bold, brassy, and projects an altogether sexy sumptuousness while maintaining a sense of humor about itself. The audience leaves the theater on a massive sugar high, fully entertained. The dancing, vocals, lighting, sets, and orchestrations are all “par excellence.”   It may not be challenging  theater, but MOULIN ROUGE is great entertainment.

What did our critic think of MOULIN ROUGE! at National Tour At Marcus Center? Are you a millennial who listened to “Elephant Love Medley” on repeat? Then this perspective is for you. But quickly, for those who need some background: Moulin Rouge! is the tragic love story of a poor writer, Christian, and the Moulin Rouge’s star burlesque performer, Satine.

From now through April 14th, Moulin Rouge! at Wharton Center will astound audiences with its pure extravaganza and spicy love story.

I can’t recall seeing a single show on the national touring circuit with costumes, lighting, and scenic design as sumptuous as those in Moulin Rouge!. Yes, the show is scaled down from its eye-popping, Tony-winning 2019 Broadway production (still running in New York), but as touring productions go, this one’s exceptionally pleasing to the eye...

Throughout the entire production, the energy remains electric, fueled by exceptional lead performers and a truly astonishing ensemble. The choreography, costumes, and sets weave together seamlessly, creating an irresistible tapestry of entertainment that demands the audience's undivided attention.
