Bright stars of Broadway perform a rockin' evening of musical theater by the women who make the music in this industry. Maestra is an organization founded by Georgia Stitt that exists to give support, visibility, and community to female composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, music coordinators, and musicians who are an underrepresented minority in musical theater. It's time for them to be heard.

Bonnie Comley, Founder of BroadwayHD, was the guest speaker at MAESTRA's May seminar at SongSpace. Composer/lyricist and music director Georgia Stitt founded the MAESTRA organization in 2017 to give support, visibility, and community to the women who make the music in the musical theater industry. The MAESTRA membership is made up of female-identifying, non-binary, and gender non-conforming composers, music directors, orchestrators, arrangers, copyists, rehearsal pianists and other musicians who are underrepresented minorities in musical theater. Songwriter and composer, Kathy Sommer, moderated the seminar.

Amas Musical Theatre (Donna Trinkoff, Artistic Producer) in celebration of its 50th season, will present Distant Thunder with book by Lynne Taylor-Corbett and Shaun Taylor-Corbett, music and lyrics by Chris Wiseman and Shaun Taylor-Corbett, with additional music and lyrics by Robert Lindsey-Nassif and Michael Moricz, the fourth and final new musical in development included in this year's 'Dare to Be Different' series. Performances are Thursday, December 6 at 3pm & 7pm and Friday, December 7 at 3pm at A.R.T./New York Theatres (502 West 53rd Street - 10th Avenue & 53rd Street).

After a nationwide search, Baltimore Center Stage is excited to announce Stephanie Ybarra has been tapped to become the theater's next Artistic Director. Ybarra comes to Baltimore Center Stage from The Public Theater in New York, where she currently serves as Director of Special Artistic Projects. She will transition to Center Stage beginning in October, and join the staff full-time in December.

Unexpected Joy concludes its extended limited engagement this Sunday afternoon, May 27, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at The York Theatre Company at Saint Peter's where performances began April 24, 2018.
Cast Recording Announced for Off-Broadway's UNEXPECTED JOY

Jump For Joy! The Off-Broadway cast recording of the New York premiere production of the new musical Unexpected Joy, with book and lyrics by Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Janet Hood (Elegies for Angels, Punks, and Raging Queens with Bill Russell), will be recorded and released by JAY Records. Produced by John Yap, the recording will feature the original cast of The York Theatre Company production who will gather at Sear Sound Studios (353 West 48th Street) on Monday, May 14, 2018 to lay down the tracks for the recording.
