Hartford Stage announced today the lineup for the Tony Award-winning theater's 2022/2023 season. Three classics, Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap, William Shakespeare's The Winter's Tale, and Alice Childress' Trouble in Mind, will join two new plays.

Chicago Writers’ Bloc announced that it will celebrate its 30th Anniversary with a benefit and staged readings of 10 new works presented as part of its 2022 New Plays Festival, running May 23 to June 14 at the Raven Theater in Edgewater.

Utah Opera has announced its 2022-23 season resident artists—four vocalists and one pianist who have been selected through national auditions to spend nine intensive months with Utah Symphony | Utah Opera. The diverse group of performers includes soprano Jasmine Rodriguez, mezzo-soprano Winona Martin, tenor Jehú Otero, baritone Tshilidzi Ndou, and pianist Laura Bleakley.

With a book by John August and music by Andrew Lippa, the musical is based on the film and novel of the same name. The show is directed by Alex S. Freeman, with music direction by Jason Philip Solis, and choreography by Kelsey Jordan Ward. Thi Le serves as Assistant Director and Hannah Tolle is the Stage Manager.

The musical, featuring jazz, ragtime, gospel, blues and African rhythms, has a book by Marsha Norman with music by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. Jon Batiste has joined the cast of the upcoming musical film adaption of The Color Purple. Batiste will make his feature film acting debut in the film as Grady, a piano man and the husband of Shug Avery, played here by Taraji P. Henson. Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, H.E.R., Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, Ciara, and more are set for the film.
