After enchanting Broadway sophisticates with his fizzy entertainments of the 1920s and 30s, Cole Porter went decidedly middle-brow at the start of the next decade with a trio of musicals about average Janes and Joes, all including some swell comical characters serving in the U.S, military.

The York Theatre Company has announced the roster of performers at the 28th Oscar Hammerstein Award Gala who will honor 2019 Tony Award winner André De Shields (Hadestown) with the 2019 Oscar Hammerstein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Musical Theatre and producer Riki Kane Larimer (Cagney) with The York Theatre Company Founders' Award on Monday evening, November 11, 2019 at The Edison Ballroom (240 West 47th Street).

Ace Young is Radames in Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, which is now being performed at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center's Vogel Auditorium this June to the delight of its audiences.

Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida is now being performed at the Axelrod Performing Arts Center this June to the delight of its audiences. Aida first opened on Broadway in 2000 and ran for four years. The Broadway production starred Adam Pascal, Heather Headley, and Sherie Rene Scott in the lead roles. The highly acclaimed show was nominated for five Tony Awards, and won four out of five, including Best Original Score. The Aida cast recording also won a Grammy for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Axelrod Performing Arts Center reunites with Luis Salgado and the team from Salgado Productions for their third collaboration, "Elton John and Tim Rice's AIDA," opening May 31, 2019. Previously for the theater, Salgado directed and choreographed "In the Heights" in 2017 and "Ragtime The Musical"  in 2018, both of which received nominations for best regional production of a musical.

Join the Black Broadway community as they perform inspirational cover songs at Darkness RISING: Live 2. The concert benefits Darkness RISING Nonprofit, an organization which focuses on mental wellness in the Black community. The event will be held at the Knitting Factory Brooklyn at 7pm (doors open at 6:30pm). Knitting Factory is located at 361 Metropolitan Ave in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Back in the early '80s, when artists like Madonna, Prince, and Michael Jackson were all the rage, I was burning through my cassette tape of a musical that my father suggested I give a listen. It was a musical conceived in 1978 called 'Ain't Misbehavin.'

Singers from the Black Broadway community have joined together to create a music and mental health album of inspirational cover songs. In just two rehearsals, the Darkness RISING cast recorded an album intended for anyone who lives with anxiety, depression, bipolar, or other mental illnesses. Music has been proven be therapeutic and healing. It can provide emotional support, increase motivation, and offer an outlet for expression of feelings.

Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park will celebrate the local voices, stories and talents that cemented Cincinnati in music history in CINCINNATI KING, a new world premiere musical that begins Nov. 3 (Opening night is Nov. 8.) It runs through Dec. 23 and is staged with support from The Rosenthal Family Foundation, Season Sponsor of New Work.

For the second night in a row, the cast of LITTLE ROCK were paid a visit by a special guest. Last night (September 5) GINA BELAFONTE, actress/producer (BLACKKKLANSMEN) and daughter of actor and civil rights activist HARRY BELAFONTE took in the show and met with the cast after the performance. The "Little Rock Nine" made history when on the first day of school, September 4, 1957, they were barred from attending Little Rock Central High School in Little Rock, AR.  Sixty one years later (September 4, 2018), former Governor and First Lady of Arkansas - President Clinton and Secretary Clinton - attended a performance of "Little Rock."
