On his sophomore album Stratford, the Minnesota-bred, Nashville-based musician shapes his lyrical storytelling with both precision and pure feeling, capturing every nuance of lost love and longing and fractured innocence. And while Stratford is steeped in a warm nostalgia, Plaine instills each song with a quiet optimism that speaks to bravely moving forward, even in troubled times. 

The Alexandre Dumas classic The Three Musketeers has been told, retold, produced and reimagined in countless ways in its 175-year history. This production is a marvelous retelling of the story from playwright Megan Monaghan Rivas with what I would term a gender-blend cast (versus gender-blind). It is a tight, witty and thoroughly entertaining revisit of this timeless tale.

As with most tales of doomed romance, Giuseppe Verdi's LA TRAVIATA highlights the contrasts between two social spheres and the difficulties faced by lovers who try to bridge this chasm. In this 1853 opera, based on a play by Alexandre Dumas, fils, the beautiful courtesan Violetta Valery (Albina Shagimuratova) tries to escape her past life among the hedonistic upper classes of Paris to settle down with her true love, Alfredo Germont (Giorgio Berrugi). After a brief period of bliss, the couple is driven apart by the strict bourgeois morality of Alfredo's family, in particular his father, who refuses to overlook Violetta's shameful past until she is on her deathbed.

After two years of numerous events and black box performances, Buffalo's Nickel City Opera is thrilled to be staging a full scale production of Verdi's 'La Traviata' with orchestra, costumes, sets and stellar cast at the grand theatre at Villa Maria College at 240 Pine Ridge Road, Buffalo, NY 14225. It's all for one, and one for all, as Palos Verdes Performing Arts presents the West Coast premiere of Catherine Bush's humorous and witty adaptation of the epic novel by Alexandre Dumas, 'The Three Musketeers.' The exclusive engagement at the Norris Theatre on the Palos Verdes Peninsula runs January 25 through February 3. Filled with adventure, romance, intrigue and swashbuckling swordplay, the play transports the audience to 17th Century France on a thrilling journey with the three heroes as they fight against the dishonest and seek to protect the ones they love.

Violetta Valry is a courtesan who can have everything she desires except lasting happiness. Love is found, lost, and reclaimed too late in Verdi's most cherished opera.

Variety reports that a new TV adaptation of Alexandre Dumas' “The Count of Monte Cristo” is in the works for a major British broadcaster from Lydia Adetunji and Amit Gupta. It will be the first screen version of the story to feature a black actor in the title role.

Yannick Nezet-Seguin conducts Michael Mayer's richly textured new production, featuring a dazzling 19th-century setting that changes with the seasons. Soprano Diana Damrau plays the tragic heroine, Violetta, and tenor Juan Diego Florez returns to the Met for the first time since 2015 to sing the role of Alfredo, Violetta's hapless lover. Baritone Quinn Kelsey is Alfredo's father, Germont, who destroys their love. Later performances feature Anita Hartig, Stephen Costello, Artur Ruci?ski, and Placido Domingo.

The Royal Opera presents Richard Eyre's stunning production of Verdi's La traviata, returning to Covent Garden for its 16th revival. First seen on the Royal Opera House main stage in 1994, the acclaimed English director's classic production lavishly re-creates the glamour of Paris in the mid-19th century and contrasts the superficial splendour of Parisian high society with an intimate examination of the opera's central characters.

A glorious holiday tradition returns to Worcester when The Hanover Theatre and Conservatory for the Performing Arts presents its annual production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker, Thanksgiving weekend, November 23 through November 25. Tickets are now on sale to members and go on sale to the public Tuesday, July 10 at 10 a.m.

The innovative and world-acclaimed Ballet Zurich's production of Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker & The Mouse King will be shown in HD at the River Street Theatre (RST) in Jaffrey on Saturday, November 24 at 2pm and 7pm.  This presentation is special event of the RST's Stage2Screen Series. The River Street Theatre is a project of the soon-to-be-built Park Theatre performing arts center.

A new entity has formed where the name of the game is collaboration and pooling talents to serve the greater good. Buffalo's All For One Theatrical Productions mounted their inaugural play last weekend with THE THREE MUSKETEERS. Obviously their company's name had a great deal to do with the chosen first venture, but more about that later.

Northern Ballet's take on the Three Musketeers is beautiful to watch, with a fantastic score and some delightful fight scenes.

Boston Ballet proudly presents the return of Mikko Nissinen's The Nutcracker. Since its world premiere in 2012, Mikko Nissinen and Robert Perdziola's re-envisioned production has been delighting audiences and critics alike. The Nutcracker, set to Tchaikovsky's renowned score, opens November 29 with performances through December 30 at the Boston Opera House.
