First Stage will kick off its 2023/24 season with the world premiere production DREAM, QUICKIE! DREAM!, a story for all ages inspired by the life of Donald 'Quickie' Driver, written by playwright Gloria Bond Clunie and directed by popular Milwaukee actor/producer/director Dimonte Henning.

Pulitzer Prize-nominated playwright Rebecca Gilman will mark her 10th production at Goodman Theatre, her longtime creative home, with Swing State—directed by Tony Award-winner Robert Falls in their 6th collaboration over 35 years. Swing State appears October 7 – November 13 in the 350-seat flexible Owen Theatre.

The producers of Guildford Fringe Festival, Nick Wyschna and Charlotte Wyschna, are celebrating the opening weekend of this year's Festival, with Gag House Comedy Superstars kicking off the jampacked three-week festival of fun, drama and laughter on 24 June.

Leaders at the Monarch School in Barrio Logan are finalizing the festivities of the Monarch Metamorphosis Art Exhibition, to be held May 11, 12, and 13, 2022, which signals the grand opening of their long-awaited new center for the arts, The Chrysalis: Monarch School's Center for the Arts. This center, just a few blocks from the main campus, is a unique community space and will support Monarch School's innovative Creative Youth Development (CYD) programs specifically designed for Monarch School students. The exhibition will be open to the public on Wednesday, May 11 and Thursday, May 12, along with a ticketed cocktail reception on Friday, May 13, and will feature works of art from local artists and Monarch students.

After more than three decades leading creative operations for one of America’s largest theaters, Tony Award-winner Robert Falls is ending his tenure as Artistic Director of Goodman Theatre. Today, Falls announced his intention to step down next summer at the completion of the current 2021/2022 Season.

The Reading Series has announced their next production, Scott McPherson’s multiple award-winning comedic drama MARVIN’S ROOM, which will take place on Wednesday, May 26th at 8:00pm, benefiting The Actors Fund. 

The Dramatists Guild of America Council has selected Michael R. Jackson as the recipient of the 2019 Hull-Warriner Award, for his musical A Strange Loop. The other finalists for the award were Madeleine George for Hurricane Diane; Stephen Adly Guirgis for Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven and more.

Cast and design team have been announced for City Lit Theater's second production of the 2019-2020 season, Kristine Thatcher's VOICE OF GOOD HOPE, a bio-drama of Barbara Jordan, the first African American congresswoman from the Deep South. Jordan earned national stature in the 1970's as a member of the House Judiciary Committee that considered articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon and as the keynote speaker of the 1976 Democratic National Convention. Kristine Thatcher, who is City Lit's playwright-in-residence, was nominated for Best New Work in the 2019 Jeff Awards for her play, THE SAFE HOUSE, which premiered at City Lit last fall. VOICE OF GOOD HOPE premiered at Victory Gardens Theater in 2000 and has been produced across the US since then. Press opening is Sunday, January 19, 2020.

Produced by The Acting Company in association with Miranda Theatre Company, A WOMAN OF THE WORLD begins performances on Thursday, October 24 for a limited engagement through Sunday, November 17. Following the release of their much anticipated new album, Streets of the Lost, Big Eyeshave shared their new video for the single 'Nearly Got Away' today with Grey Estates. Written in the perspective of the Lipstick Killer, the video takes you on a journey with frontwoman, Kait Eldridge, as she channels a serial killer character - something Kait has always found fascinating and has spent a lot of time studying.

It's 2019 and the words 'rock' and 'female-led' have rejoined the conversation with Big Eyes' new album, Streets of the Lost out now via Ghettoblaster. As an album chasing, “Classic power pop songwriting with hard rock dual leads and a punk edge,” Big Eyes succeed in delivering more than just the traditional two-minute angry blast of sound. From tackling the tragedy of suicide on “The Upside” to laughing in the face of adolescence on “Young, Dumb and Bored,” the band presents a fully-formed idea of unrelenting guitars and percussion that anyone could find meaning in. The addition of tastefully electrifying vocals only contributes to the overall humility and humanity of the album.

Following the announcement of their upcoming tour and album release, Big Eyes have dropped their energizing new single “Hourglass” today via Brooklyn Vegan. Taking on a more psychedelic visual approach, the video encapsulates the driving snare and dual guitars emanating throughout the tune. Of the single, the band describes it as being about “coming to terms with the fact that you won't ever be with someone you are pining for.”
