Tom Mothersdale

Tom began his career on stage after developing an interest in acting while at school in Storrington, West Sussex. He studied acting at Rose Bruford College.

His stage credits include Tinker in Sarah Kane's Cleansed at the Royal National Theatre in 2016 and a role in Robert Alan Evans' The Woods at London's Royal Court Theatre. He played Elias in Annie Baker's John at the National Theatre and appeared in Headlong's production of The Glass Menagerie. He also portrayed Mercutio in Headlong's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet. In 2019, he played a mocking myth-teller in Caryl Churchill's Glass. Kill. Bluebeard. Imp. at the Royal Court Theatre. That year, he portrayed Richard III at Bristol Old Vic, having previously played the role at Alexandra Palace.

His television credits include Peaky Blinders (2014), in which he played a Sabini Kidnap Gangster in two episodes; Endeavour (2016), as Peter Matthews in one episode; and Doc Martin (2017), as Bill Potter in one episode. In 2023, he appeared as Gabriel Defoe in all eight episodes of Bodies and as Right Hand in seven episodes of Culprits.

In 2024, he portrayed Richard Rich in the BBC One historical drama Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, appearing in six episodes. He also appeared in the British horror film Black Noise alongside Kate Phillips and Aidan Gillen. In 2025, he portrayed David Cox in the historical drama Brian and Maggie, appearing in two episodes alongside Steve Coogan and Harriet Walter.
