Todd Salovey Biography
Todd Salovey teaches acting in the undergraduate theatre program, as well as teaching Introduction to Theatre, graduate directing, and supervising many graduate student instructors. He is in his 25rd season as the San Diego REP’s Associate Artistic Director.Mr. Salovey directed the original workshop production of Herbert Siguenza’s A Weekend with Pablo Picasso at San Diego REP and its world premiere at the Alley Theatre in Houston. He also directed subsequent productions at Los Angeles Theatre Center, Center Arts Rep, and at Denver Center Theatre Company. Mr. Salovey has directed many acclaimed REP shows including A Hammer, A Bell and A Song to Sing, which he also authored, and The Blessing of a Broken Heart for which he won an Edgerton New American Play award, the English language premiere of In the Time of the Butterflies, King Lear, Hamlet starring Jefferson Mays, The Road to Mecca, Doubt, Brooklyn Boy, the world premiere of Yehuda Hyman’s The Mad Dancers, Uncle Vanya, and Death of a Salesman starring Michael Genovese, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Illusion, The Dybbuk, The Imaginary Invalid, Three Hotels, and A Christmas Carol.
At UCSD, he has directed Six Characters in Search of an Author and Stage Door. As the Founding Artistic Director of the Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival, he has commissioned and developed numerous new pieces of music, theatre, and dance that have been premiered in San Diego and gone on to be performed throughout the world. He produces many REP Surround Events, including Talkin’ Theatre with Todd. Todd is married to Diane Boomer and is the very proud dad of Leah and Aryeh.

San Diego Repertory Theatre announced the cast and creative team for their upcoming premiere of In Every Generation by Ali Viterbi, directed by Todd Salovey and Emily Moler. The production will run May 26 - June 19 in San Diego REP’s Lyceum Space, with previews running May 26 - 31 and press opening on Wednesday, June 1 at 7pm. The play is one of the cornerstone events of San Diego REP’s JFEST, the 29th Annual Lipinsky Family San Diego Jewish Arts Festival.Â
