Ten years ago, as a reaction to over-amplification of musicals, Scott Siegel had the crazy idea that there might be an audience for a concert of Broadway show tunes performed the way they used to be sung: without microphones. And Scott had the perfect place to try out his theory, the acoustically wonderful Town Hall on West 43rd St. With no money, but the support of a great many singers who wanted, literally, to be heard in a way that was no longer possible on Broadway, he launched the first Broadway Unplugged, boasting 'Sound Design by God.' Broadway Unplugged returned for its 8th season in a row with yet another all-star line-up on Monday, November 14. Musical theater history was revisited when these great Broadway singers performed songs from the Great White Way the way they were originally heard -- un-miked!

In what has become a Fall concert tradition in New York, some of the biggest and brightest Broadway stars of today, showed that they've got the same vocal chops as the stars of yesteryear when they blow the roof off of the 1,500 seat Town Hall without using microphones in the BROADWAY UNPLUGGED concert, November 15. Singing Broadway show tunes the way they used to be sung -- without any electronic amplification ('Unplugged') -- the audience hears the pure human voice the way one never hears it anymore in a Broadway theater. And it is thrilling! For those that are tired of today's constant over-amplification of Broadway musicals, this concert was both an eye and ear opener.
