2023 Marks 40 Years of Dream in High Park

This summer, Canadian Stage celebrates 40 magical years of Dream in High Park by bringing back one of Shakespeare's most beloved plays, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM.  The first play ever presented in the High Park amphitheatre in 1983, A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM has long been associated with the time-held tradition of Shakespeare under the stars.

Review: PRODIGAL at Streetcar Crowsnest

What did our critic think of PRODIGAL at Streetcar Crowsnest? PRODIGAL, written and directed by The Howland Company's Paolo Santalucia and now playing at Crow's Theatre, takes place entirely in the kitchen of the wealthy Clark family over a weekend where the past comes home to roost. Patriarch Rowan Clark (Rick Roberts) finds out that he is about to come into a powerful political position, as his son Henry (Cameron Laurie) and daughter-in-law to be Sadie (Veronica Hortiguela) celebrate their engagement in the other room. Unfortunately for him, his prodigal son chooses that evening to return, mostly because he finds he's been cut off from the family funding to preserve their clean image under the added scrutiny politics will require.

COME FROM AWAY Toronto's Eliza-Jane Scott to Premiere New Musical Comedy MEDITAISH At The Hamilton Fringe Festival

Are You Well will present Meditaish, playing at The Casbah as part of the 2022 Hamilton Fringe Festival Mini Bar Series from July 20th to 31st. After slapping a stage manager at her hit review 'Easy Dussett Elinor Russett!', the aging Broadway theatre diva with anger management issues has her day in court and things don't exactly go her way.

BWW Review: The Stratford Festival's R&J Offers a Unique and Accessible Retelling of a Well Known Tragedy

R&J, produced in collaboration with WhyNot Theatre, makes it clear that one does not need to experience theatre with all five senses in order to be moved. The audience point of entry to this production is shifted from visual to auditory, allowing for this production to be intended for blind, low vision, and sighted audiences alike.

Photos: First Look at R+J at The Stratford Festival

They say that love is blind – and with blindness comes the freedom to open the mind’s eye to a world of limitless possibility. Likewise, the challenge of staging the world’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet, in a time of physical distancing brings with it the opportunity to explore modes of theatrical presentation that are both unexpectedly novel and as old as the art of storytelling itself.

Stratford Festival to Begin Performances in July

The Ontario government has issued its guidance for attendance at outdoor performing arts events, paving the way for the opening of the Stratford Festival’s 2021 season. According to these guidelines, the Stratford Festival will be able to accommodate 100 people (or 25% capacity) in each of its new outdoor canopies.

BWW Review: Ravi Jain's PRINCE HAMLET (2017 Review)

A gender-bending, English and American Sign Language (ASL) bilingual production of Shakespeare's Hamlet may sound ambitious - but it plays as compellingly human. Maybe you're not familiar with the story. Maybe you've seen it a hundred times. Regardless, Why Not Theatre's PRINCE HAMLET will defy your expectations. Ravi Jain has adapted Shakespeare's most famous play in a way that is relevant and, as the title suggests, focuses more intimately on its protagonist's struggle to understand human nature.

BWW Review: ANIMAL FARM at Soulpepper Uses Humour to Reel You In

I would watch a Ravi Jain directed production of the phone book. ANIMAL FARM, presented by Soulpepper, is an adaption of George Orwell's famous novel by Canadian playwright Anthony MacMahon. Jain and MacMahon design a campy, satirical world for the farm animals, using humour as a reel to hook the audience into deeper discussions about humanity and society. It's persuasive, troubling, and honestly funny.

BWW Review: Nothing is Everything in Soulpepper's WAITING FOR GODOT

Beckett's masterpiece, WAITING FOR GODOT proves its relevance in Soulpepper's riveting revival, opening their 2017-18 season. GODOT's structure, atmosphere and design plays like a contemplation on mindfulness - a search for meaning, in the seemingly meaningless.

Rachel Christopher to Step in for Extended INTIMATE APPAREL at Shakespeare & Company

Shakespeare & Company adds two more performances to its Intimate Apparel run. Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lynn Nottage and directed by long-time Company member Daniela Varon, the performances have been selling out.

BWW Review: Shakespeare's Reflection on Humanity is Powerfully Human in Why Not Theatre's PRINCE HAMLET

Ravi Jain has adapted Shakespeare's most famous play in a way that is relatable and, as the title suggests, focuses more intimately on its protagonist's struggle to understand human nature.
