TWELFTH NIGHT to Open DREAM IN HIGH PARK

Canadian Stage's Dream in High Park will return for its 43rd year with a new production of TWELFTH NIGHT. The production will run at the High Park Amphitheatre from July 12 through September 6.

Award-winning artist Gregory Prest, who previously appeared in Canadian Stage's production of The Inheritance, will make his Dream in High Park directing debut with the production.

Caroline Toal will star as Viola in her Dream in High Park debut following her performance as Anne Shirley in the Stratford Festival production of Anne of Green Gables. Toal will also appear later this year in Canadian Stage's upcoming production of GOODNIGHT DESDEMONA (GOOD MORNING JULIET) alongside TWELFTH NIGHT co-star Mike Shara.

The cast also includes Ghazal Azarbad, Farhang Ghajar, Steven Sutcliffe, Rick Roberts, Mike Shara, Navtej Sandhu, Justin Otto, Ori Black, Ray Jacildo, Deivan Steele, and Alicia Barban.

One of Shakespeare's best-known comedies, TWELFTH NIGHT follows Viola after she is shipwrecked and separated from her twin brother. Disguising herself as a man, Viola becomes entangled in a series of mistaken identities, romantic complications, and comic misunderstandings.

“There's nothing quite like gathering in High Park on a summer night and experiencing Shakespeare surrounded by hundreds of people under the stars,” said Canadian Stage Artistic Director Brendan Healy. “There's a reason TWELFTH NIGHT has become such an enduring favourite for Shakespeare in the park: it's funny, romantic, musical, and deeply human — the perfect play to experience outdoors on a summer night.”

The creative team includes set and costume designer Sim Suzer, lighting designer Logan Raju Cracknell, sound designer Olivia Wheeler, text coach Tim Welham, and fight director Anita Nittoly.

New Theme Nights Announced

This year's Dream in High Park season will also introduce a series of themed evenings throughout the run, including Zoo Night on July 17, Queer Night on July 24, Dog Night on July 29, and Date Night on July 30.

Canadian Stage will also offer backstage tours prior to select Tuesday evening performances on July 21 and September 1.

Performances of TWELFTH NIGHT will take place Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., with Sunday performances at 7 p.m. at the High Park Amphitheatre in Toronto. General admission tickets are $35 plus HST, with $20 rush tickets available for all performances.
