Marjorie Duffield is a librettist, playwright, and screenwriter. She wrote lyrics for Over the Moon, the Oscar- and Golden Globe-nominated animated feature-length musical from Pearl Studio/Netflix, written by Audrey Wells and directed by Oscar winner and Disney Legend Glen Keane (October 2020). Her work on the film earned her an Annie Award nomination, and nominations for Best Original Song from the Hollywood Critics Association, the LEJA Award, the Satellite Awards, and others.
She wrote Betterthandead, a feature-length film, and contributed episodes to the series Caged. In theater, her play Ice Island: The Wait for Shackleton was produced Off-Broadway by The Melting Pot Theatre Company. Other stage credits include: In a Lake of Fire (Winner of the Moss Hart Award and Finalist for the Richard Rodgers Award, music by Greg Pliska), Sit-In at the Five & Dime (with composer Janice Lowe), Voices (music by Chris Curtis), Viral (music by Alexander Green), and Presenting Olivia Jameson (music by Robert Waldman).
Marjorie is working on the new musical Ink & Paint with Danielle E. Moore, which celebrates the unsung women of Disney’s golden age of animation. The piece will be developed and presented at the Newport NewWorks Festival, August 2025.
In addition to her writing, Marjorie has worked extensively as a theater educator at The Calhoun School in Manhattan and The Metropolitan Opera Guild. She graduated from Williams College and the NYU/Tisch Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program, where she was a Jacob Javits Fellow. Marjorie is a proud member of ASCAP, the Society of Composers and Lyricists, the Dramatists Guild, and Honor Roll!. She was a recipient of the Dramatists Guild’s Jonathan Larson Memorial Musical Theatre Fellowship.
