Beehive: The 60s Musical is a revue that celebrates the powerful female voices of the 1960s with such timeless hits as 'My Boyfriend's Back', 'Be My Baby', 'Son of a Preacher Man', and 'Me and Bobby McGee'. Told from the perspective of six young women who come of age in this enigmatic decade, Beehive takes us from their first Beehive Dance to the challenges we faced as a nation.

Raleigh Little Theatre presents the first musical of its 2021-22 season, “Beehive: The 60's Musical.” Created by Larry Gallagher, the musical runs August 12-28 in RLT's outdoor Louise “Scottie” Stephenson Amphitheatre. The production is directed by Lormarev Jones, whose previous RLT directing credits include “Blood at the Root” in 2019.

Plays and musicals are often written about racial incidents that have happened in the distant past, like THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS or the fictional RAGTIME. It's less often that they are written about more contemporary events like the true story of the Jena Six, six black students charged with attempted murder after a school fight in Louisiana in 2006. But Dominique Morisseau's BLOOD AT THE ROOT at Raleigh Little Theatre tackles the topic with respect and thoughtfulness, creating a narrative that examines the situation from many sides of the student body of the high school where it occurred.

A team of local artist-activists, captained by director Lormarev Jones, will present a staged reading of Will Brumley's The Clinic on Monday, June 10, as a fundraiser for Planned Parenthood of Southwest Ohio and the Yellowhammer Fund of Alabama in light of the current restrictive abortion laws popping up around the nation. The reading's cast features Lauren Carr, Jen Joplin, and Kelcey Broomfield in the principal roles.
