Review: NOBODY'S PERFECT at New Theatre & Restaurant
by Alan Portner - Dec 1, 2025
Overland Park, KS — The New Theatre & Restaurant has built its reputation on polished, crowd-pleasing comedies, and its latest production of Nobody’s Perfect keeps that tradition humming along with bright energy and old-fashioned farce. This show is a four-hander with a super cast starring Jim O’Heir (familiar to audiences from TV’s Parks and Recreation) as Leonard Loftus. Backing up O’Heir are New Theatre veterans Kelly Felthous, Victor Raider-Wexler and rookie KyLee Hennes.

BWW Review: Skylight's Endearing VIOLET Shatters Visions between the Miraculous and Mundane
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - Oct 6, 2016
For the 2016-2017 no 'shrinking violet' opening of the Cabot Theatre Stage, Skylight Music Theatre presents the 1997 award-winning musical, Violet. Set in the mid 1960's, the Broadway Theatre Center production relates to a young woman's journey when her father accidentally disfigured her face and left a traumatic facial scar amid the burgeoning civil rights movement and beginnings of the Vietnam war. When Violet travels from North Carolina to Oklahoma carrying her dream and hope that a faith healer will remove the scar, the young Southern woman encounters various people on her Greyhound bus ride to remind the audience life's miracles arise in multiple forms when the heart opens the eyes and mind and removes the mundane from the material world.
BWW Reviews: A FIRESIDE CHRISTMAS - Defining Midwestern Hospitality
by Finny (Amanda Finn) - Nov 10, 2014
Though it is only November, before Thanksgiving no less, Christmas is in full swing at The Fireside Dinner Theatre.
When audiences received holiday dishes before the curtain rose, they were provided with both warm hospitality by the staff as well as well named dishes. The Snowflake Salad, for instance, lightly dusted with feta cheese crumbles was as delicious as it was delightful. Diners who were awaiting the theatre doors to open already knew that they were in store for a whimsical evening.

by Paul W. Thompson - Apr 28, 2014
I hardly know where to begin in describing the beautiful, world-class, but dramatically uneven production of the beloved and immortal 'The Sound of Music' that opened at the Civic Opera House over the weekend. All the resources of Lyric Opera of Chicago have been brought to bear on a brand-new production of a title that is known throughout the world, and the result is occasionally thrilling--a feast for the eyes, and usually one for the ears as well.
