Though it is only November, before Thanksgiving no less, Christmas is in full swing at The Fireside Dinner Theatre.

When audiences received holiday dishes before the curtain rose, they were provided with both warm hospitality by the staff as well as well named dishes. The Snowflake Salad, for instance, lightly dusted with feta cheese crumbles was as delicious as it was delightful. Diners who were awaiting the theatre doors to open already knew that they were in store for a whimsical evening.

An ensemble of dancers, singers, a quirky show host, and four precious young girls has come together to present the twentieth edition of A Fireside Christmas. A revue of familiar carols reveals a trip through Christmases past, unveiling the rich history of the holiday for all those who are already full of the spirit.

Beginning at the present day, show host Michael Haws guides audiences backwards through time to explore the ways in which Christmas has evolved through the years. Touching on the remarkable bitter sweetness of wartime before stumbling upon a group of Gregorian monks, Haws is tasked by director Ed Flesch to remind attendees of the true meaning of Christmas.

Charming numbers such as "Yes, Virginia" brought smiles to faces throughout the intimate theatre, reminding audiences that the spirit of Santa Claus exists in the heart of all those who embody the spirit of Christmas. Particularly heart-warming was the precocious KyLee Hennes who, after being seen recently in Les Miserables, graced the stage as Virginia. Hennes' amazement at the answer she is given by the ensemble, regarding the existence of Santa Claus, is an example of what makes the holiday so magical in the present day. A child's whole hearted belief in Santa, without any doubt in several cases, is akin to the belief held by Christians in regard to the holiday.

Surprises are also in store for audiences from performers such as Courtney Love who blends his own style into the popular Christmas tune "Mary Did You Know?" Combining his unique Prince-esque abilities as well as his grasp of smooth vocal performance made for a breathtaking rendition of the favorite Christmas carol.

The Christmas season is about believing, loving, and hoping - the time of year when everything from the sparkling snow to the aroma of pine seems magical. Fireside Theatre uses this idealism to their advantage to provide their audiences with a show that fulfills every expectation for a Christmas celebration.

A dichotomy of both vocal talent as well as dance graced the quaint stage that evening in a swirl of childlike wonderment and pure joy. Any time an audience goes into a Christmas show, they know several things that will likely occur. This is certainly the case with A Fireside Christmas, but with the incredible professionalism audiences have come to expect from the company. Fireside's company as a whole deserves every accolade received for this anniversary production.

Because nothing compliments Christmas better than an evening by The Fireside.
