The Black Theatre Network, the nation's oldest organization dedicated to the exploration and preservation of the theatrical visions of the African Diaspora, will present 'AFROFUTURISM: Envisioning Black Theatre,' the theme of its 37th annual conference.

The Colored Museum a play with music was written by George C. Wolfe. The play premiered at the Crossroads Theatre in 1986 and was directed by L. Kenneth Richardson. Wolfe’s work is the focus of 11 individual sketches or “exhibits” and through these revues, recounts satirical and prominent themes and people throughout African-American History and Culture. As the second show in their 2022/2023 “This is America” Season, American Stage planned to stage this show as a way to redefine our ideas of what it means to be African American in Contemporary America. George C. Wolfe’s review show was the winner of the 1988 NAACP Image Award.

Kicking off American Stage's second show of the season, The Colored Museum will bring a cast of five to the Mainstage from November 2-27. 

HANDS UP features individual monologues written by seven Black playwrights and expresses them through the creative compositions made by an ensemble cast. HANDS UP is co-directed by Spelman Professor Keith Arthur Bolden and Spelman Alumna and former Alliance Spelman Fellow Alexis Woodard. Woodard and Bolden worked on productions of HANDS UP previously as student and professor at Spelman College and beyond.

In response to national conversations on racial justice and equality, Atlanta's Alliance Theatre will produce THE NEW PLAY FEST'S HANDS UP: SEVEN PLAYWRIGHTS, SEVEN TESTIMENTS as part of its Hertz Stage series, October 8 – 31, 2021. 

Atlanta’s nationally acclaimed Alliance Theatre has announced the productions of the Alliance’s 53rd season. 

The 24 Hour Plays: Viral Monologues will mark their one-year anniversary with a series of unforgettable monologues. Twenty-four actors have been paired with twenty-four writers, who have crafted unique pieces especially for their actors. From 6 PM until 10 PM, new monologues will be published every 15 minutes.  

PCPA brings back InterPlay readings from February 26 through March 20 - with four new plays, each being read twice over the course of four weekends. The readings are all live streamed via Zoom. The series includes The Mountaintop, Into the Breeches!, Two Degrees, and Fade. Performances are 7pm Fridays and 1:30pm on Saturdays. $10 per viewer or $40 for all four.

In partnership with local artists, activists, and community organizations, the Alliance Theatre will host Hands Up Atlanta: Art and Activism, a series of conversations exploring the role of artistic expression as an activist tool to ignite dialogue, reflection, and civic participation around critical issues affecting Black lives, specifically in Atlanta and the South.

Atlanta's Alliance Theatre has announced the productions of the Alliance's 52nd season. This season, the Alliance is reimagining how to gather, where to take the stage, and how a story comes to life.

As part of its 2020/21 season the Alliance will produce HANDS UP in association with Spelman College. Across seven monologues written by seven Black playwrights, HANDS UP depicts the realities of Black America from the perspective of varying genders, sexual orientations, skin tones, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Artistic Director Jamil Jude and Kenny Leon's True Colors Theatre Company will open a ground-breaking 17th season with Dominique Morisseau's Paradise Blue.

The play, a fair and angry indictment of social injustice, asks a number of important questions, and the gorgeous cast, under the adept direction of Atlanta-favorite Tinashe Kajese Bolden and Keith Arthur Bolden, and with help from an incredibly able design team, brings the indictment to powerful life.
