Karen Sours Albisua

BIO

A native of Mexico City, Karen studied acting and directing at Texas State University. Upon graduation, she moved to New York to continue her studies at Circle in the Square Theatre School where she met her mentor Alan Langdon. She currently resides in Los Angeles.


TV: Recurring roles in FX's The Bridge, Showtime's The Chi, and PBS' We are NY. Film: Insidious, Sin Cielo, Negative, La Dama, Another Slave Narrative, and Going Local. NY Theater: She Like Girls by Chisa Hutchison (GLADD Award Winner, Ohio Th), Tennessee Williams Collected Shorts (Theatre Row, dir Matthew Lillard), Theresa Rebeck's Katie & Frank (Cherry Lane, dir Pamela Adlon), Shanley's Four Dogs and a Bone, and Beth Henley's The Debutante Ball (24hr Play Fest, Circle in the Square on Broadway), and The Seagull (dir Alan Langdon). LA Theater: Handcuffed to Darkness (VS Theater) which she both produced and starred in, Bernardo Cubría's The Giant Void in my Soul, and The Tragedy (The Pico).

Karen serves as an Associate Artistic Dir and Literary Manager of Animus Theatre Co in NY, and is a member of Ammunition Theatre Co in LA. She recently joined Mesquite Productions where she's devoloping and producing independent films. Spirit Animal: Panzas! Karen’s psychotic, lovable, Mexican-born, NY-raised, LA-based, coyote chasing, English Springer Spaniel.

The Echo Theater Company presents the world premiere of Ascension, an immersive, interactive, sci-fi mystery thriller written by D.G. Watson and directed by Echo associate artistic director Ahmed Best. Performances take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Oct. 6 through Nov. 18 at Atwater Village Theatre. One preview performance is set for Oct. 5.
