BWW Review: STAND! Movie Musical
by Louis Train - Dec 6, 2019
Although STAND! is full of romance, it is boldly honest in its historical depictions. Xenophobia and racism take centre stage in the story. Canada gets at best an ambivalent treatment, as a place where the lucky are lucky but the unlucky struggle just to avoid harm. One of the central questions of the film is the conflict between individual and institution - a defining issue in North America going into 2020 as well.

BWW Review: SOONER/LATER at Atlas Performing Arts Center
by Naomi Ducat - May 23, 2019
Sooner/Later, written by Allyson Currin and directed by Gregg Henry, catapults the audience into the life of a single, working, middle aged mother Nora (Erica Chamblee), her charming, possessive, teen-aged daughter, Lexie (Cristina M. Ibarra), and a sarcastic and dubious suitor-turned-companion, Griff (Tony K. Nam). The performance is a comedy about love and loss, and draws us into complicated relationships that are timelessly relevant as they touch the fears, desires, and expectations that any American woman-young or seasoned, may experience in her lifetime.

BWW Exclusive: My Riotous Night at JULIUS CAESAR
by Leah Lane - Jun 21, 2017
I find controversy delicious. As an avid theatre goer, there are very few times when I enter a theater with no preconceptions about what I'm about to see. Whether it's just the gossip I've heard around or the ads that I skip after 5 seconds on YouTube, I usually have some prior knowledge about the subject matter. This was especially true when I went into the Delacorte Theater to see the Public's production of Julius Caesar. I learned of Oscar Eustis' choice to make the play explicitly politically relevant when I heard about Delta and Bank of America pulling their sponsorships. As someone who sees herself as a socially active artist, I got excited.
