Borgnine made his Broadway debut as the hospital attendant in Harvey in 1949, followed by the role of Nelson in Mrs. McThing in 1952. His very first stage role was for Virginia's Barter Theatre production of State of the Union, which led to him to the role of the Gentleman Caller in Barter's production of The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams.

In Borgnine's breakout film, From Here to Eternity (1951), he played Sergeant "Fatso" Judson opposite Frank Sinatra. A well-known character actor, Borgnine also starred in the films Johnny Guitar, Vera Cruz, Bad Day at Black Rock, Marty (for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor), The Vikings, The Flight of the Phoenix, The Dirty Dozen, Ice Station ZEbra, The Poseidon Adventure, The Black Hole, Escape from New York, The Wild Bunch and many more. He more recently appeared in the movie Red.

On television, Borgnine appeared in McHale's Navy, Captain Video and His Video Rangers, Short Short Dramas, Waterfront, The Lone Wolf, Fireside Theatre, Laramie, The Blue Angles, Run for Your Life, Little House on the Prairie, The Love Boat, Magnum, P.I., Highway to Heaven, Murder, She Wrote, Walker, Texas Ranger, Touched by an Angel, and ER, for which he was nominated for an Emmy Award in 2009.

The Screen Actors Guild honored Borgnine with its annual Life Achievement Award in 2011.

Academy Award- Nominated Actor Sally Kellerman Dead At 84


Actress-singer Sally Kellerman, who achieved worldwide movie fame for her role as Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in Robert Altman's classic 1970 film “M*A*S*H,” with Donald Sutherland and Elliott Gould, died early this morning (Feb. 24) in her sleep from heart failure at her home in Woodland Hills.  She was 84.  For her iconic role, she was nominated as “Best Supporting Actress” by both the Oscars and Golden Globes.  It was reported by her manager and publicist Alan Eichler.

GABRIELLA To Film In Early December With Indie Veteran Filmmaker, Sopranos Star And Local Stage Actress


Award-Winning Producer/Director Sam Borowski will be filming his latest production this December, a short titled Gabriella. The Indie Veteran will return to the director's chair with an original script he wrote. The film about a waitress named Gabriella, who is obsessed with movies, and dealing with a creepy customer named Joe, who is obsessed with her, will star young ingénue, Devony DiMattia in the title role, Joe Gannascoli, best known for his role as Vito Spatafore from The Sopranos as a shady character Gabriella suspects is a mobster and John Calvanico as the potential stalker, Joe.

When the Met's literary advisor asked Nicholas Wright what he thought about doing the libretto for MARNIE, he said yes because he was really interested in working with composer Nico Muhly and Michael Mayer. He was somewhat reserved, however, about whether it was a good opera subject. That was understandable, of course, when he admitted, laughing, a case of mistaken identity.

Three Tales by Steve Reich, with visuals by Beryl Korot, will open the Long Beach Opera's 40th Anniversary Season, for two performances Saturday, November 3 at 6pm and Sunday, November 4 at 2:30pm at the Ernest Borgnine Theater, Scottish Rite Event Center, in Long Beach, CA.  The production is sung in English, and is conducted by Andreas Mitisek.
