BWW Review: DISASTER! at Roxy's Downtown Photo BWW Review: DISASTER! at Roxy's Downtown
by Paula Makar - Sep 17, 2021

RUN RIGHT DOWN TO SEE THIS SHOW RIGHT NOW! To quote my students, ‚ÄúThis show is ridiculous, and we laughed so hard.‚ÄĚ Like a farce on speed, DISASTER! is like riding a freight train over rough terrain, hanging on for dear life until the engineer finally puts on the brakes. This show is so nutritionally dense, you will want to consume it more than once. No laugh is unmined here. Every beat is crammed with hilarity. If you don‚Äôt laugh when you see this show, you need to have your humorous attended to.

by Ricky Pope - Jul 8, 2021

What do you get when you combine the pianistic finesse of Michael Feinstein, the smooth phrasing of Tony Bennett, and the bawdy wit of Bette Midler? You get Michael McAssey, who for 40 years has reigned as the clown prince of New York cabaret, and has enchanted as one of its most talented troubadours. He calls what he does 'schtick.' But that's undervaluing his unique blend of beautiful ballad singing and standup, or rather 'sit down' comedy.

Disaster! lovingly pokes fun at two staples of 1970s popular culture: disaster movies like Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure and the disco-heavy pop music of the era. Whether to go is not going to present any great dilemmas. This is a perfect summer evening's smart-alecky entertainment.
