Interview: Jordan Kai Burnett Slashing Their Way Through Life & SCISSORHANDS - A MUSICAL TRIBUTE

The smash jukebox tribute Scissorhands - A Musical Tribute returns with an all-new, immersive staging opening December 1, 2023, at The Bourbon Room (with previews starting November 24th). This hilarious parody of the 1990 classic film Edward Scissorhands features their unique take on such pop hits as: What Was I Made For, Dream On, Uninvited, Like a Prayer, I'm Every Woman, Shallow, Shake It Out, and Fast Car. Scissorhands’ playwright Bradley Bredeweg directs the vocally gifted cast of: Jordan Kai Burnett, Emma Hunton, Dionne Gipson, Natalie Masini, Ryan O'Connor, Carly Casey and Alex Ellis; with Carson Higgins, alternating with John Krause. Jordan cut some time out of their busy schedule to answer a few of my queries.

Sure, we love our families but we don't always see eye to eye and as the wine flows and the turkey and yams fill our bellies, maybe our inhibitions and filters lower. And while I love the tight dialog and raw honesty, the ending of the play does come across as a bit abrupt.

While watching a revival production of Lionel Bart's 'Oliver!' in London, LES MISERABLES Co-creator Alain Boublil saw the similarities between literature's favorite little street urchins Oliver Twist, from Charles Dicken's novel of the same name, and Gavroche, from Victor Hugo's LES MISERABLES, which sparked the idea to cowrite the novel-to-stage adaptation of the latter with Claude-Michel Schonberg more than 30 years ago.

Last night was the first of two nights of the 25th anniversary concert of The Secret Garden at Lincoln Center and by all reports the star-filled concert practically blew the roof off of the building. The concert performances of the TONY Award-winning musical featured a stunning Broadway and television cast, creative team, the New York City Chamber Orchestra, and a grand 200-voice chorus from across the United States. Friends in Theater Company and State of Play Productions' THE SECRET GARDEN, a Broadway benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, presented the first of two sold-out performances last night, January 11, at 7:30 p.m. at the Lucille Lortel Theater. The fully staged production, directed/choreographed by Curtis Holbrook, was led by Rebecca Luker as Lily, Gabriella Pizzolo as Mary, and Bradley Dean as Archie with Tom Deckman, Ali Ewoldt, Frances Mercanti-Anthony, Bill Nolte, Eli Tokash, Max von Essen, and Cortney Wolfson. Additionally, composer Lucy Simon and original cast member Daisy Egan co-hosted the night. BroadwayWorld was there for the special event and you can check out photos from the curtain call and after party below!
