Netflix has released a music video with rapper and “Queen of Bounce Music”, Big Freedia remixing Netflix's Strong Black Lead series 'Hey Queen' just in time for the release of Netflix and Shondaland’s Queen Charlotte: A  Bridgerton Story. This video also serves as a nod to the significance of HBCU royal court culture.

Centered on Queen Charlotte's rise to prominence and power, this Bridgerton-verse prequel tells the story of how the young Queen's marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the Ton inherited by the characters in Bridgerton. Production photos have been released for Zinnie Harris’ multi-award-winning play Further than the Furthest Thing in a visionary revival by Genesis Fellow / Young Vic Associate Director Jennifer Tang. The cast includes Olivier Award winner Jenna Russell, Cyril Nri, Gerald Kyd, Archie Madekwe and Kirsty Rider with live vocals by Shapla Salique.

The series features Golda Rosheuvel (Queen Charlotte), India Amarteifio (Young Queen Charlotte), Corey Mylchreest (Young King George), Arsema Thomas (Young Lady Danbury) as well as taped appearances with Adjoa Andoh (Lady Danbury) and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton). The Young Vic Theatre has announced full casting for its 2023 new season opening production Further than the Furthest Thing, the multi-award-winning modern classic by Zinnie Harris (Macbeth (an undoing), This Restless House, How To Hold Your Breath) in a visionary revival by Genesis Fellow / Young Vic Associate Director Jennifer Tang (AI, Mountains: The Dreams of Lily Kwok).

Netflix and Shondaland today announced the cast of the limited series based on the origins of the historical figure Queen Charlotte. While the project is untitled, the series centers on the rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte, it will also focus on Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury.

It's better late than never for a neglected classic to receive a major production. American dramatist Alice Childress's 1955 play Trouble in Mind is one such work with controversial beginnings and belated revivals. If Childress had agreed to revise her play in 1955-57 to make it more palatable for a predominantly white audience, then hers would have been the first play by a Black woman to be produced on Broadway.

Rehearsal imagery for Trouble In Mind by Alice Childress is released today. Opening in the Dorfman on December 2 and running until the 19 January, the production is directed by Nancy Medina with Tanya Moodie performing the role of Wiletta.

This March, The Act will be screened as part of BFI Flare, a festival to showcase the best new LGBTIQ+ cinema from around the world, as part of their Hearts' Desires short film programme.

The Royal Shakespeare Company production of Macbeth (2018) will be broadcast on BBC Four this Sunday 14 June at 9.30pm as part of Culture in Quarantine. This will be followed by Simon Godwin's landmark production of Hamlet (2016) with Paapa Essiedu in the title role on Sunday 21 June at 9pm.

The 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, revealed its feature film lineup championing the discovery of emerging voices and celebrating new work from established filmmaking talent. To close the Festival, Tribeca will World Premiere The Fourth Estate, from Oscar®-nominated director Liz Garbus, which follows The New York Times' coverage of the Trump administration's first year. The Centerpiece Gala will be the World Premiere of Drake Doremus' sci-fi romance Zoe starring Ewan McGregor, Lea Seydoux, Rashida Jones, and Theo James. The 2018 Tribeca Film Festival takes place April 18-29.
