Clay Stefanki Biography

As a boy, he performed in youth theater productions at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert. And when the family moved to Olivenhain when Clay was 12, he got involved in school theater and trained at La Jolla Playhouse. He earned the Clayton E. Liggett theater award when he graduated from San Dieguito Academy in Encinitas and he was one of just 15 students selected for the musical theater program at the University of California.

He made his Moonlight debut in 2008 in “Guys and Dolls,” followed by “42nd Street” in 2009 and “Oklahoma!” in 2010.

After college, Stefanki moved to New York to pursue a Broadway career, but returned frequently to perform in Southern California. Among his other local shows were “Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” and “October Sky” at The Old Globe, “Guys and Dolls” and “Festival of Christmas” at Lamb’s Players Theatre, “All Shook Up” at San Diego Musical Theatre and “Life Could Be a Dream” at Moonlight.

The two highlights of his career were playing Bert in the “Mary Poppins” musical at Tuacahn Theatre in Utah and performing in “Miss Saigon” in Macau.

San Diego Musical Theatre Presents ALL SHOOK UP Photo San Diego Musical Theatre Presents ALL SHOOK UP
by Stephi Wild - Jun 23, 2019

SDMT kicks off this summer with the feel good comedy All Shook Up. Nominated for 3 Outer Critics Circle awards including Best Musical, featuring the songs of Elvis Presley. Loosely based on Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night,' 'All Shook Up' tells the story of a small town girl with big dreams from somewhere in the middle of a square state in the middle of a square decade, and the motorcycle-riding stud she falls for. He changes everything and everyone he meets in this hip-swiveling, lip-curling musical fantasy that'll have you jumpin' out of your blue suede shoes with such classics as 'Heartbreak Hotel,' 'Jailhouse Rock,' and 'Don't Be Cruel.'
