BWW Review: COME FROM AWAY at Omaha Performing Arts: Iowa Nice Meet Canada Nice

Most of the people who read this article will know what Iowa Nice is if they heard it, but I would wager that most of those same people who not know what Gander Nice is. This is going to change soon as 'Come From Away,' by Irene Sankoff and David Hein, is coming to Des Moines as part of Des Moines Performing Arts 2019-2020 Willis Broadway Series. I have been following this show for a few years, watching it become the hit that it is, and couldn't wait to see it when it comes to Des Moines January 28-February 2, 2020. So this last weekend, I traveled to Omaha to see 'Come From Away.' And I was not disappointed.

The treasured tale by Hans Christian Andersen of a wise bird that helps save a kingdom gets a new twist in this adaptation set in 18th-century China. The West Coast Premiere of The Emperor's Nightingale by Damon Chua, directed by Tim Dang, opens May 4th and runs through May 19th at the Lewis Family Playhouse. Tickets are priced at $18.00 for General admission, and $16.00 for Seniors and Youth up to age 12.
The Music Center on Location Brings Dance to Culver City

The Music Center On Location announced the U.S. premiere of Akram Khan's Until the Lions, the retelling of an excerpt from the epic Sanskrit poem the Mahabarata through a synthesis of kathak -- the Indian classical dance form -- and contemporary dance. Part of the 15th season of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center (Dance at The Music Center), Until the Lions will be performed by the Akram Khan Company at The Culver Studios in Culver City, CA from October 18 21, 2017.

Rehearsals have begun at Curve, Leicester for multi award-winning choreographer and dancer Akram Khan's Until the Lions, his highly anticipated, brand-new full-length production. Premiering in the 360° setting of London's Roundhouse, the inspiration for the piece which Khan will choreograph and perform in is taken from the ancient Sanskrit epic The Mahabharata. Set to be one of his most startling and introspective works to date, the piece will run for 12 performances in London from 9 January 2016 before beginning an international tour and returning to co-commissioners Curve, Leicester.
